Chris Ash Presser on Schiano/Rutgers

I just don't see how you can't be impressed with Coach Ash. Of course we are all waiting to see how all of this affects recruiting, player development and wins and losses.

But when I listen to him speak. He oozes passion, sincerity, and integrity. These are traits of a leader, and so far, I am on board.

I was always and will be a big Greg Schiano fan. Having lived through some really bad years I will always appreciate the Schiano years. That being said, I think we have a real winner here in coach Ash. I am a big believer in perception and I think the NJ/NY crowd are going to like this guy. Looks the part, talks the part and best of all comes from a championship program where he was a key guy. I love the youth movement and I think with just a little success on the field he can take this area by storm.

In before someone bitches about how he kept saying "we", "our", "us", etc. when referring to OSU.

Great presser. The guy is a leader.

Whoever runs their press conferences should give our people notes. It's good to hear the questions asked quickly and clearly.

Is that because of their press people or the reporters asking the questions?

Did you notice they had a moderator that called on people to ask questions rather than the way our media just blurts out questions in their own condescending way? Plus the questions were not the "gotcha" questions like you get from our good old slanted nj.com 3.

Every time I hear Ash speak, I'm impressed.

BTW -- Is there any chance of getting Schiano's presser accepting the job at OSU? I'd like to hear his impression of Ash and the situation as a whole.

I like how he calls GS, "Greg". Its not disrespect, but there isn't a pedastal he is putting him on and a humble level of confidence from Coach Ash.

There's at least one reason. Probably more. You just don't like the reasons.

No there really isn't. He should be here. The fact that this press conference is at Ohio State is disconcerting to say the least.

It is such a pleasure to
It's a process.
I really had to laugh, after listening to Ash, I put on Greg's presser.
In the very first sentence he says it's a process, then I shut it down
before hearing it's a work in progress, or we have to keep chopping.
What a relief, no more BS from GS.
Ash really looks and sounds like the real thing.

No there really isn't. He should be here,
Sure there are. Here are two reasons:
  • Because Ash wanted to coach out the complete season with his former team.
  • Because Meyer wanted Ash to finish the job he started at the beginning of the season.
You might not like those reasons. But they are reasons. And nobody cares if you or I like the reasons.

And while, from RU's perspective, there may be some disadvantages to Ash coaching in the bowl game, there are also some advantages. Ash gets more experience coaching against tough competition. RU gets good exposure through Ash's involvement in the bowl game.

First thing he said was about being happy to be a part of the "Ohio St family"..arrrggghhh lol.

More significantly - about recruiting players he said "If you're doing a good job recruiting you're recruiting them at 14 and 15 never mind 17 and 18."
That's why Greg will have an advantage in NJ and NY.

RU gets nothing positive from Ash coaching in the bowl because any time he's shown or mentioned, the next shot or sentence will be about Greg Schiano building a pipeline to NJ kids while Ash is still lining up his staff or hired an unknown assistant with NJ roots.

To anyone except a Rutgers fan, the perception is that Ash is in no rush to get to Rutgers because Ohio State's game is more important than recruiting and getting his staff together at Rutgers. I mean it's the freakin' Fiesta Bowl. Not the playoffs like Herman stayed for last year or Kirby Smart is this year.

Urban baited the trap by getting Ash to stay. Hobbs fell for it. RU gets completely outclassed by OSU. Again.

And then Hobbs signs off on the OC, who's only a WR coach, blowing off Rutgers until January too. Ash has talked to the RU players once. Second semester starts on January 18th. Recruits on campus 3 days later. You know, there's no dead period for talking to your current players or to high school coaches face to face. Only at Rutgers ...

Really like Ash hire but lots of good points in here.

GO RU

Most people understand concept of giving an employer notice. I like that Ohio St hires the types of people that wouldn't leave them high and dry at critical moment. A program like OSU could lose a few coaches in a moments notice. Maybe when RU wins a half dozen NCs it will have the same problem but right now it doesn't. Schiano was more loyal than not. Ash too is more loyal than not. You want integrity in people or not? Some guys want a nice girl and some want hoes. Ash isn't a hoe. Oh like there are buckets of RU recruits just waiting for coach Ash to scoop them up or tie them down. Ash could go on a month long vacation to China and RU would still recruit better than with Flood. People had to know there was going to be a lot of players jumping that sinking ship. I'm sure potential staff coaches are also keen on Ash loyalty. I don't think most 'fans" really care if Ash isn't full time yet. I think some just want their butt kissed - like its them Ash is ignoring. Get a life.

Why won't Ash contact Ohio State commits and tell them to go to Rutgers with him instead? All is fair in love and football.

Any chance that Coach Ash is recruiting Ohio while still in Columbus? With his Big Ten coaching contacts, I assume the geographic make-up of our recruit list will change dramatically the first few years until he establishes himself and his staff and success in NJ. Especially defensive players from Ohio who might be drawing recruiting interest from Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron, and Bowling Green instead of Ohio State. Giving those players a chance to compete in the Big Ten and against Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and TTFP every year is a big selling point.

Saran -- not worried about '16 recruits. Whatever happens ... happens. More concerned about the current players who have met their head coach only once and have only a few soon-to-be-fired coaches and GAs working with them in the Hale Center. From talking to a player's father, it's pretty clear that there's a lot of anxiety in the locker room. Then again, it's finals too. Yeah, I think the kids deserve better.

Herman was hired by Houston in mid-December, coached OSU through January 12th. He started announcing hires on January 5th and had his staff pretty much filled by mid-January. Hopefully, Ash will be as successful and have everything set before second semester so the kids know what's going on.
