Christian McCaffrey

Wes Welker and Danny Amendola both came from Texas Tech oddly enough.

Kid is a beast, stanford is on another level of talent with iowa like the game last night with bama/sparty, same style of play but different type of athletes

Why is there a lack of good white position players ? It seems like an oddity when there is one .

Best player in the country. More impressive than Henry.

Elliot and Reynolds are better too. Elliot runs/catches/blocks like a beast. Four TDs today vs a good team. Henry was invisible vs the green slime. Heisman people just pick who they think gets them longest run/hype in media. All that "best player" stuff is slag.

I just watched his HS highlights on YouTube. Incredible. Apparently he has two younger brothers who are similar. Get Coach Ash on them! lol

Agree. Henry does not return punts, receive or run after the catch and certainly does not take direct snaps with a threat to throw a touchdown as well as run it. Elliot can do all of those things like McCaffery. Henry is great, but he's Eddie Lacey to me. I'd take Zeke or McCaffery over him for sure.

I am sure that Stanford and Duke will be 1 and 2 for both brothers. His father, John Elway's favorite target, was also a Stanford grad and his uncle starred at Duke and then transferred to Vanderbilt because he wasn't getting PT with Bobby Hurley occupying most of it.

Haha. I read this as Ed was Elways favorite target in college! First thought was "they weren't in college together!" Then I remembered they were at Denver together. Lol

Without getting into "Jimmy the Greek" territory, I was taught in a physiology class about fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers and how the ratios can change dramatically between ethnic and racial backgrounds. When those muscle fiber differences are simplified, it could mean the difference between likelihood for success in endurance activities, or speed/burst activities.
.

Genetically its West Africans who are fastest. There are lots of slow Africans from other parts. Jamaicans are consistently some of the best sprinters in the world because they are almost entirely of West African decent..The best strength athletes come from Northern Europe populations. In some areas of Africa you have very tall people. You find the same thing in the Balkan regions which is why you see more of them in basketball. A guy wrote a very interesting book about all this once but he got jumped all over - including on WFAN

What's the name of the book? I've always been very interested in this and would love to read it. I remember reading an article about how east africans have some hereditary advantage that allows them to dominate the long distance running (more slow twitch muscle fibers?) whereas the west africans have more fast twitch muscles which allow them to do well in shorter distance sprints.

It was Jimmy The Greek, right ?

I'm in the camp that likes Henry better. From the running back position he cuts better and goes through arm tackles regularly. Both are great players, but if I had to choose one, it would be Henry.

McCaffrey is the man. Keep in mind he lost another 50 yds on a BS holding call

LOL, was it Jimmy the Greek or Howard Cosell who said, blacks run faster because they have an extra muscle in their legs? Man, the press was all over that as they should be.

McCaffery is a great athlete. Not sure how his talents will translate in the pros but at the collegiate level he's a stud.

One question, after the game he was being interviewed and a very annoying individual behind him kept yelling out Heisman. What an annoying individual.

That guy was such a distracting dbag. I was hoping the interviewer would call him out. Hey loser, it's not your moment. You're not being interviewed. No one cares what you have to say.

Read The Sports Gene by David Epstein. It's a bit complicated and a great nature/nurture discussion.

I kinda like the Reggie Bush comparison..

CM is a great player...I'll see all of him you want to show me

I have seen enough of the parents as well...

but now all the D's will be schemed on him and he doesn't have the senior
QB anymore...don't hand out the trophy just yet

Should have won Heisman nobody has accomplished more for their team to help them win games than him. He accomplished things nobody has accomplished before. He got screwed. The Heisman should not go to a player from the best team it should go to a player that makes their team the best

Mom won a national championship in soccer at Stanford .His brother is a successful tight end at Duke. those two younger brothers have narrow choices.

I found the author with the gene pool observations was science journalist Jon Etine. I'm not sure of the specific book because he's written a few on the topic (there's a list on Amazon). This pages on this site list most of his general claims

I think we need to be reasonable regarding the McCaffery vs. Henry comparison. I believe a back like Henry in the PAC-10 would have been dubbed as the next Jim Brown. I'm not taking anything away from McCaffery as he is a phenomenal athlete and only a sophomore. But let's be honest, he's barely 5'11 where D. Henry is every bit of 6' 3" with a bruising running style that will translate well in the NFL. I coached pop warner midgets (160lbs) for three years with some success. If someone were to ask me to evaluate and draw comparisons between my African American and Caucasian athletes I would quietly and respectfully respond there were none.

Didn't see the whole game, but I saw enough. McCaffrey is some back. I don't remember seeing one like him in quite a while.

I think McCaffrey can have an NFL career as good as Brian Leonard had.

McCaffrey is an amazingly good player, but so is Derrick Henry. Their rushing stats are very similar, but Stanford also threw the ball to McCaffrey, whereas Bama didn't throw to Henry.

Two things clearly in Henry's favor: he played against a much tougher schedule than McCaffrey, and he had 25 TDs compared to McCaffrey's 15.

Basically, it was very close.
