Classy move by Nebraska honoring fallen punter

Reminds me of when Pete did this at USC a while back for their fallen kicker, was one of my favorite CFB moments ever

Nebraska has arguably the most passionate fan base in college football. Has there ever been a game there where you saw empty seats in that stadium?

Wow, that was a really moving. I hope that it helps in the healing process that the team is going through.

Yesterdays game was the 348th consecutive sold out game for Nebraska. MrScrew & I traveled there when we played them & being in that stadium was incredible. All 90,800+ fans in their seats before kick off. 50,000 balloons floating up at the first Huskers TD. We met season ticket holders who travel 250 miles ..EACH WAY...for every home game. When you have no other local professional sports you are all in for your state college team.

Now that's dedication. I can't even imagine doing that here.

Mrs Screw is right. We were constantly stopped on the streets of Lincoln with, "Welcome to Lincoln! Are you having a good time? Are you being treated well? Thank you for travelling out to Nebraska!"

The Friday night before the game, The country band at a huge nightclub asked for someone who knew the Rutgers fight song. So my son and I did the RU fight song cheer on stage. The crowd applauded. Then the band engaged me in some friendly banter with, "Good luck tomorrow and how do you think things will go tomorrow?" I replied, "You don't think we came all the way out here from NJ to lose, do you?" They threw out a quip and I threw out a..." You know I come from the state where Tony Soprano lives, right?" The crowd (all Nebraskans in for the game) loved it. I ended with, "We are thrilled to be in the same conference as you, and I have to tell you, I have been here for one day, and it is so obvious to me that Nebraska is really great place to live and to raise a family!" Left the stage to huge applause and the band member asking if I was planning to run for mayor of Lincoln.

Going to R Football away games is a great way to see the country.

Way to be a great ambassador for the school and state. Same goes for the 'Screws... it has been fairly obvious the way some visiting fans on this board have responded that out visitor contingent does a great job out there.

New Jersey is not big enough to travel 250 miles each way.

Great tribute by Nebraska and great for Fresno State for their contributions to this.

But fans are allowed to cross state lines when driving to the game. The distance from Boston to Piscataway is 249 miles.
Just comparing the size of both states. Plus the difference between Nebraska (where Nebraska Football is KING) and NJ (where Rutgers still have a ways to go as far as winning over fans of another team not even 30 miles south of campus). Hopefully it can be done.

Fun fact: on game day, the inside of Huskers Stadium becomes the 3rd largest city in Nebraska after Omaha & Lincoln.

Thanks GoodOl'. Most places I have been, especially Arkansas and Nebraska, the people are genuinely interested in you, your team and NJ. At U of Michigan, nope. Too many U of M folks have a unnecessarily high opinion of themselves.

And yes, there is a great group of Rutgers folks that I have met at away games that rep the R well, including the Screws, Ra Ra and Piscataway Mike and his brother. And I enjoy meeting people that love college football from other states (except Pennsylvania) , just like I enjoy meeting rabid Knights fans and alums.

It was real sportsmanship that Fresno declined he delay of game penalty. Classy.
