I watched Linden win tonight 64-35. The second game I watched the first half. Roselle Catholic I think led Trenton Catholic at RC 33-18 at the half. As usual RC is loaded. Cliff had 8 points at the half on 4 monster dunks. He was 4-6 on shots from the floor, had 4 rebounds and 3 turnovers. He ran the floor well and was often double teamed. He set picks and really didn't get the ball too often. He had a couple blocks and caused many altered shots. I want to see him take a few shots a little away from the basket but I didn't see that tonight. I probably will see him a few more times this season.

Can I give you a suitcase of money to deliver to him to top whatever Kentucky is offering?

His highlights tend to be all dunks too. Real curious about his shooting ability.

Pikiell is a great coach but isn't Montez his only 4 star recruit to date? With the new practice facilities, CVS has the top class in the Big 10. Coach Pike needs to land Omoruyi in the worst way.

Ummm. There’s no way you can compare CVS to Pike.

Depending on whose rankings you like, the following guys were on at least one list as a four star

Young
Doucoure
Mathis
Harper
Mulchay

And of these, only Harper is close to what a four star should be right now. I think Mulcahy will get there but doubt the others will.

Harper is doing great but he had very little options coming out of Bosco. Let’s not try to say Pike beat anyone out for this kid because he did not.

Wonder how Myles and Caleb stack up, if you were to compare them to other 4 stars who are one-third through their second season of eligibility.

Myles and Caleb were obviously under-rated just like Doucoure, Young, and Mathis were overrated. They bring different skills to the table but personally I’d take Myles or Caleb over all the others except Harper.

Agree although I’m feeling better about what Mathis can give us, as he seems to be playing within himself more (or maybe it just looks that way compared to Young).

Regardless of star ratings, we can compete with all the guys we have, who each bring different skill sets needed for us to win as a team.

Interesting you say this. I too had been comparing freshman Mathis vs. sophomore Mathis vs. current Young, and it really does look like Mathis has reigned in his game somewhat compared to last year, and is playing within himself (in addition to playing good D). He is also taking decent threes btw.

Now if Pike can just get Young to dial back the wild dribble-drives, and just get the kid to let the game come to him a little more, I think Young can be a plus player.

Liking Mathis more this year. I’m hoping Young takes a cue from Tez and becomes more efficient on the offensive end while giving us that stellar defense.

Recruiting's biggest help is winning!
Since football and Mens BB has not been doing all that well for years, what do fans expect?
Pike will do better as the team does better.

Agree Mathis has been better on offense with less turnovers, more assists, better shot selection to go along with his tough D. Young needs to reign it in on offense, not take 3's, look to dish more when he drives. Have the offense run through someone else when he is in the game. Although at some point you gotta feel like he gets hot one of these games and puts up a big game. His D has been excellent

I don’t get the knocking on tez either. He plays awesome defense and is great at giving is transition points. He is better from 3pt. He will have a few games this year where he will carry the team. He also brings a toughness every game and helps give this team an edge it needs. If we had 10 players like tez, we would have an ncaa tournament team

This thread was about Cliff Omoruyi. Now every comment is about Montez. Why can't posters stay on topic or start a new thread on Montez?

knights1212, I’m excited at the possibility of landing such a highly rated recruit as Cliff. I’m wondering about how much of a complete game he has. I see the dunks, and his size and strength are visible.

How would you compare his overall game to bigs we see in our conference? Does he have the footwork that will serve him well on both ends of the court, good hands, passing ability, and decent foul shooting? Hard to tell from his highlight reel. Appreciate any insight, thanks.

He runs the floor like a deer. He is pretty good on the foul line and his footwork is really good. He blocks a lot of shots but RC usually lets their other guys shoot and he doesn't usually get a chance to shoot jumpers or even 10-12 footers. I think he probably can make these based on his free throws but the other 4 guys on RC are probably D-1 players as well. His dunks are amazing as he jumps really high above the rim. He certainly would be a big help.
