Come January

finishing last in the big ten won’t look good and will set the program back. Play to win every game. The young guys will play and should naturally get more minutes as they adapt to the speed.
Here’s a secret, look at the team this year, the program is set back. We made two NCAAs 30 years ago. Now we’ve made two in the last 4, soon to be 5, years. We’ve changed our style of play and look terrible.

2 in the last 3 years, and really 3 in the last 4 years. tournament was cancelled in 2020 but team qualified. so either credit for qualified or don't count at all...
still too early to judge on this year, as Illinois could be an elite 8 team. they are setup better for deep run than big ten teams of last few years..

I'm an extremely positive guy...having a hard time seeing this team compete. I'm sorry but Simpson, Hyatt and cliff as your core players is not going to cut it. I had my doubts but I wanted to see what the team could do with Illinois...I felt this way last year and the team got a lot better. Maybe Mag comes back and is a confident scorer now but beyond that....

Just use this year to get jmike and Gavin comfortable so they can be leaders next year...should be plenty of shots for ace next year because there is no one on Rutgers who can take their defender one on one...takes Fernandes 95 dribbles to get by his man and he barely gets by. Maybe he gets faster idk. Griffiths is a shooter but he's not confident enough in his handle or one on one moves to be what this team needs. Jmike isn't big and strong enough to finish at the rim yet. Hyatt will shoot it but isn't consistent, cliff doesn't have anyone to throw him lobs and isn't good offensively otherwise. I saw the team passing it to woolfolk in the post? Has he ever had post moves?

After the game Princeton I was disappointed in thinking that Simpson did not improve at all over the off season. Then after the next couple games I thought he played well and was going to make a post about his improvements but wanted to wait for the Illinois game. And he was back to the type of player I thought he was, good free throw shooter but not good shooting off the dribble pull ups, not good finishing at the rim, not a good distributor of the ball, he's gotten better defensively though...ndongo is really the missing piece from this team and that pisses me off. Had wishful thinking of chol bringing an ndongo type skill set but doesn't look like he's going to play much. Lol going take a step back from the Rutgers message boards for a little bit while the team works and comes together. We will see what we have January...

It sucks that Covid cancelled the tourney but they didn’t “qualify”. Likely yes, but it’s not that same as knowing you’re in on selection Sunday. Look at last year, everyone thought they were in……

You’re overrating IL. Good yes, but elite 8. Come on. We made them look better than they are. Just like after Princeton showed us up and everyone was like Princeton is an ncaa lock whether they win the ivy or not. Just admit it were fundamentally a bad team this year.

We should see A LOT of Wolf, Derek, Gavin and JMike for next year. Get them minutes.
Even now, I'd like to see a starting lineup of Simpson (PG), Williams, Griffiths, Cliff and Hyatt (replaced by Mag as soon as he comes back). Let Fernades be the energizer bunny off the bench and let Wolf spell Cliff. I am a big fan of Wolf, but his RB numbers are so bad right now (2 RBs in 23 min. v. IL and only 1 RB v. St. Peter's), he should not be starting!

Saying 2 of the last 4 IS an inaccurate assessment, as there was NO tournament In 2020

But if there was one, every announcer referring to Rutgers and the 2020 season, said they would have been in..

Is weight lifting mandatory for this team? If so Derek seems to have skipped those sessions. He needs to put on some muscle along with JMike and Gavin

Come January, we will have a much better idea of the post-season realistic aspirations of this team.

Long Island and Stonehill must be wins.

The other three could be anywhere from 3-0 to 0-3.

Wake is possibly worse at rebounding than we have been, with a -3.4 margin per game. Toss up but it could happen.

Seton Hall... rivalry game, anything goes.

Mississippi State... overrated. Beatable. Not a sure thing by any stretch.

Let's roll the dice and see what comes up before writing off the season.

I think too many have overreacted after the Illinois loss. I try to be positive and hopefully soon Mag will decide to play and get us to improve. It was just two years ago on Dec 3, 2021 that Illinois pounded us by 35 points (86-51) and we bounced back to make the NCAA. Don't give up on this team after one loss. There are still 24 regular season games. I know I will always root for our guys.

Most of his development needs to be mental. He’s very talented physically.

as a pg, he needs to facilitate and he doesn’t do that. Either does Williams or Davis. For better or worse, Noah is all we have for that role. Those other guys are 2s and Simpson is the best of the bunch.

As far as Cliff and Woolfolk both starting it does absolutely no good to have Woolfolk in the game if the goal is to clear out and post up Cliff. And he’s not a good rebounder anyway.

This team is better than any non-Pike team at Rutgers since the turn of the century. It might not be a tourney team but people need to step off the ledge.

Clearly OP never played a team sport or is suffering from one to many concussions.

Clearly you would’ve wrong on your first assumption, not only in terms of playing but coached also. If we have a two win DEC and with the gauntlet of a B1G schedule we start with, you’ll see my point in 5-6 weeks.

Ignore the individual results. We beat St Peters by 30 and they killed us on the boards. Illinois proceeded to also kill us on the glass. We have issues on this team. I had no problem with turning over the roster last year. It’s not like we had a choice anyway, but other than perhaps AW it looks like we didn’t bring in anyone with a mature man’s body. We’re being out toughed and I’m not sure the team coming together will make up for that this year.

he's literally almost exact same size and weight as Xaivian Lee, but Lee plays much MUCH stronger

You play to win the games and the guys that earn the minutes will play them. Not a hard concept unless you want to lose your locker room.

Who is wowing you right now that they’ve earned any more minutes than those that are coming back next year?

Pike would laugh you out of the building with this nonsense.
Like IL laughed us out of our own building? All I’m asking for is more minutes for Gavin, Derek, Wolf and JMike. They don’t have to start. You’re not going to sit Cliff. AW is showing something, but seriously, answer the question, who’s wowing you so much that those four can’t get more time?
