Like many of you, I wrote off NJ.COM long ago except that I do continue to follow TH. I agree with Bobby in that many of our issues (excepting maybe one writer who I can't stand and will never read) are directly attributable to the editor. Some have argued it's a personal vendetta of some kind, I would say he has a tabloid strategy to sports. Having said that, like everyone, he either makes money or he gets fired. This is the question. Anyone can see Ash is building something special in NJ. This is not NJ local coaches being given a chance to play in the B1G time. This is B1G time talent building a national program in the toughest conference in the media capital of the world. This is serious interest from major publications, the Sports Illustrated's of the World, the NY times, the NYC papers. This is not Mickey Mouse stuff. I've read a lot of stuff from the local versions of nj.com in the other top states and the coverage is very different. Does NJ.COM change their strategy or do they continue to run with their tabloid mentality with the risk of being completely marginalized. Can Ash do this? maybe not alone. However, as Rutgers gets stronger in football, soccer, wrestling, and the other sports, the local audience will become more demanding or they will look for an alternative local source. Don't get me wrong - nothing beats Rivals and this forum, but one can hope true change will extend to the media coverage as well. I clicked on two articles today (not TH) and was happy to find sports journalistic coverage for a change. I think I will give them a second chance (well most of them anyway).
Nicely written detailed conversation on the life of a day for Ash - definitely worth a read
