Why was Grant, risking injury, fielding punts late in the 2nd half? If I remember correctly P.James saw a few plays in the 2nd half after the game had been decided. With his injury history, why was that?

comment is not without some merit -- I still remember Mike Teel injuring hand against a D-2 opponent and the injury lingered all season...

that said - i don't think you can play scared -- -this is good in-game opportunities that you really can't duplicate in practice.

All you ever do rudad02 is come on here lately bitching and moaning...we get it ....you don't care for Flood and his reasoning or methodology... however he is not the only D-1 coach who would have done the same... for the record you don't stop injuries by protecting and not playing players at specific times...if that were true Hamilton wouldn't be out.

On the RB situation, I think that is just the fact that we have 4 good to great backs. Someone has to carry the ball. That question could be asked regardless of who was in.

I really like how Flood is handling the rb's right now. Hopefully he can handle the QB situation with the same effectiveness. Gone should be the days the no hook rule. Whoever is in should be looking over their shoulder.

only thing I didn't like was James getting carries late in the game when it was already a blowout. Would hate to see him get injured in garbage time. Give Goodwin or Greg Jones some carries.

Did not seem that PJ was out there too much late in the game.

I asked a couple of legitimate questions. If you don't like them that's your perogative. Your answers, however, don't seem to make much sense.

Post-game Coach Flood answered your question. Pre-game plans called for rotating the running backs and Norries Wilson said it was James' turn to be on the field at that time, so James was sent out.

Did the pre-game plan call for sending your best running back, with a history of injuries, & coming off an ACL tear, back into a game that was already won? Or don't we make adjustments to our set plan, regardless of the circumstances?

Players are going to get hurt at some point since the game is a violent meeting of body on body....PJ needs the actual game reps and wouldn't want it any other way...people are too caught up in what happened to him in the past...he was running plays which are less likely to expose him to severe injuries...ask PJ if preferred to be on the bench?...right he wouldn't ...he wants to carry the rock.

We shouldn't been playing any starters in the 4th quarter. In fact, we shouldn't have been playing any scholarship players at all. And some of those walkons are valuable - shouldn't play them, either. Couldn't we just get Norfolk State to end the game early due to the mercy rule?

I mean... someone could get *hurt*.

Play scared to get hurt, and undoubtedly someone will.

Its also about getting game reps. Why do we have our best players practice then, more injuries in practice than a game. You never know when your going to get injured, you can not live that way.

No we make no adjustments because are coaches all suck and Flood is a buffoon! Is that what you were hooping for? Are you sad you didn't get another pile on Flood thread?

Well most of you guys clearly have contrary opinions to mine. However, their is a great deal of precedent for not exposing certain guys guys to the risk of injury when the game has been decided. Guess we just disagree.

This was a tune up game. James hadn't played in a year. Can't get tuned up while you are on the bench.

Listen, injuries are part of the game, never know when they are going to hit. He gets injured everyone is screaming bloody murder. That extra rep allows him to make a cut the next game that leads to a touchdown, everyone is happy.

If it were later in the year when players were in mid-season form it would make more sense to pull them. But that was just the first game and they're still shaking off rust. Especially a guy like James who missed most of last season. And it's not like James carried the ball a load that game. He finished with fifteen carries, about a third of the team's total. I have no problems with Flood's decisions here.

At this point there is no clear number one running back and PJ is healthy so why skip him in the rotation? Only reason to do so in a blowout would be if he was dinged up or, if he was the clear starter, then not to appear to be trying to pad stats/run up the score. Re. Jamarion, it's tough with returners because, in general, you only have one or two guys designated as returners. More likely to get someone injured when they are less familiar at the position. Better scenario is to tell your primary guy that since the game is in hand, play it safe and don't put yourself in harms way.

I believe there are positives for James to get carries and gain confidence in the knee and getting hit. Could he have gotten hurt, sure. I might have done it differently. But I don't think it was terrible. Perhaps a few games into season if he looks healthy, fully back in shape and we are blowing out someone i would pull him out for 4th q.

I was a bit concerned myself when James went back in but then it was only like for 2 carries and then the rotation was just Martin and Hicks with Goodwin coming in for the TD. I tend to agree..just keeping him loose and getting some work in.

Grant is our guy. Period.

People who fear injury probably don't understand the game. James hasn't played in a significant amount of time and needs a certain amount of live game action.

There are only so many punts in a game and having Grant in gets the punt return team more chances to work together as an entire unit.

Injuries can happen anywhere with or without contact.

Why was Ohio State's star running back fielding punts last night? Why risk injury?????
He was fielding Punts because 4 of their WRs were suspended and there was nobody else. Also OSU was in tight game with V Tech in the 2nd &3rd Qtrs when Elliott was fielding punts.
Grant was fielding Punts when RU had a 50 point lead.
