If I am Flood and looking at the DB situation which we all know is still a mess, I am in a mad panic when I realize I am about to lose Barnwell. I think about the prospects of playing without him, getting torched every game, losing a few extra games, having the fans pound him. Then I think.....what if there is something that can be done where Barnwell could be eligible.
The NCAA president a few years ago talked about how schools do a cost/benefit analysis of cheating and decide that cheating is worth the risk of NCAA infractions. IMO, Flood knew what he was doing and took the risk, given the lack of depth at DB. Maybe he was using influence to try and change the grade, maybe not. I tend to think he went at it lightly, but it is pretty much irrelevant. Either way, I believe he took a measured risk and it blew up on him.
I think he did the same with the DB last year that had the gun (Baily?) and Boggs. The lesson to be learned is don't let a position group get so screwed up that you are in this position. My PSU buddy admitted to me today that it will be years before they can fix their OL. I told him it took RU years to fix ours, lol.
