I saw the following today, lifted from this link. Did Rutgers recruit this Summit, NJ young man, currently at Miami? He did a year at Fork Union. I do not remember his name. I'm assuming he was an Al Golden recruit.

BADG-O-MATIC

•Junior Michael Badgley enjoyed a prolific season in 2015, setting the single-season record for made field goals (25) and besting the previous school record held by Jon Peattie (22, 2003).

•Badgley tied a UM record when he hit a 57-yard field goal against Georgia Tech in 2015.

•The Summit, N.J., native set a school record when he hit five field goals against Nebraska in 2015, and would tie that mark later in the season with five field goals against Pittsburgh.

• Badgley’s 2.08 field goals per game average ranked first in Division I, while his 25 made field goals were tied for fourth-most in the nation. He ranked 16th in scoring (9.6 points per game).

Rutgers was never in the picture. Kid was a very good athlete. Played 2 ways and kicked. Was very productive. He was also very good at lacrosse.

I would have been happy with Willie Wilson and Butch Woolfolk You can keep the lacrosse boys .

Badgley was the real deal in HS - he was well publicized and the number one rated HS kicker in 2013 - but we signed Federico the year before.

I hear what you're saying but what's with this...

Prep year for a K?

He was the #1 rated HS kicker in his class and was reported to have a walk-on offer from Stanford. His grades, talent and attitude weren't issues. I believe that there just weren't the right scholarship offers for him out of HS so he went the prep route in hopes of offers coming from schools he liked in 2013.

Grades were a bit of an issue but bottom line is we didn't pursue him. He would have come to RU if offered.

Rutgers is like 30 min away from Summit. If costs is not a factor, kids are going away for the college experience.

The old NJ wealthy suburb thumbing their collective noses at the state U of Rutgers debate. Haven't heard of this kicker before but sounds like if he was good enough to get an offer coming out of high school from RU he would have taken since he wound up at a prep school like Fork Union. Also sounds like he did really well at F.U. and got a schollie from Da U. Good for him and too bad RU staff could not identify unless he gave signals that he was too good for RU and wanted an offer from a Stanford or fill in a blank. Again doesn't sound like the case since he went the prep school route.

GO RU

A kicker is a different animal. Usually plans on staying 4 years and maybe doesn't mind sitting one. So if you already have a newly signed kicker just coming in, why chance it to not being the regular guy. Unless this is your dream school for academics, there are many choices available. If you're a good KO guy, maybe that plays into it too and you bide your time.
If you truly were the #1 rated kicker in HS, take your pick. The really good ones aren't a dime a dozen.
