DL Rene Konga to portal

This will be a loss regardless but may also mean that he sensed that one or more of the younger guys had passed him on the depth chart.

If that’s the case it’s an indirect positive.

Never like to lose DL guy but he was not a starter and probably was more of a 3 deep type.

And
My hunch is some third party relayed interest from another school who said we can use you and pay you for your services. You won't have to battle for important snaps.

Then you would wrong…sorry Konga was hurt off and on. Several passed him by… Angoy… the Florida State player… he is as cubuffdoug said more apt to have offered a starting spot with some $$$$… what do you consider a good year ? he had 14 tackles and a sack . His totals are 2nd 3rd type depth chart . Syracuse is a distinct possibility.

Re-Checked his RU stats since 2020-2021 saw no time… 2022-2023 combined for 14 tackles over the two year period. He registered 2 sacks in the last two seasons… it says he has 2 more seasons so for Konga it is probably a good move to make some $$$$. That is the name of the game now.

And what were the stats for Hamilton and Angoy last year? I have not looked but I would guess that neither had better stats than Konga. Konga 3rd string, I doubt it!

As many here have alluded, where he ends up will tell us a lot about what happened here. I'd like to think that this was about playing time, but if he ends up at another P5 school, then it was about money. Syracuse/Fran Brown would be a unique scenario.

Unless you have a deal in hand these guys are taking big gambles. I read somewhere that almost 40 % of those in portal are left in the cold with no where to go.

Suggest you do some research .We have some new parts for 2024

With the portal- you have a few different scenarios.
Kid is a good starter and has already been in contact with other schools
Kid is a good player but maybe marginal starter or in the 2/3 deep and does not see a future at current school but knows that if nothing else, they can drop down
Kid just get bad F-ing advice...

Also- for those that get "the talk" - they still have options- When have we ever heard at Rutgers "kid is a great teammate, does everything right, good student but just ins't going to see gametime- we are going to drop him from the team and scholarship" - we never hear it. So- for the kids that may fall into this catagory- it is just dumb as shit to jump into the portal as there is a good chance you may even be throwing your football time and education away

Wish Konga good luck unless it’s against Rutgers. Seemed to be well liked. Hope he’s healthy as last season he was not .

Of course but stuff goes over the heads of the gullible!

only to realize - that, though we have a number of posters that post crap like this- we all missed Vic's little 😜guy that made it obvious that he was not one of them.

No problem.

Others seriously don’t understand the nature of the portal ? I guess they aren’t good with change.

Though I am disappointed that Konga is leaving.

Sure would have given us a good guy and experience from the list of schools …still early…UConn, Cincy. UMass and 1 or 2 others would be a good spot. He’s not a starter in my opinion.

One thing to remember -- unless he has American citizenship (have never heard it mentioned), he can't receive NIL money. Would expect him to end up at a good academic school given his history, but absolutely as a place where he's going to be getting almost all of the snaps, and probably a warm state.

Well as the boys on the podcast stated we are pretty deep and now with the possibility of CJ West out there …now that would be game changing . Also Anthony Johnson from Youngstown transferred to Illinois…there was an article which said “ he now realized he was not going to be a starter.” Another good MAC player but do we offer a spot.
