Chris Ash - born and raised in Iowa, coached at Iowa State.
Drew Mehringer - coached at Iowa State
Jay Niemann - born and raised in Iowa, coached northern Iowa, 2 sons play at Iowa.
AJ Blazek - played at Iowa, coached at Iowa.
Shane Burnham - coached at Iowa state.

All of these guys have a unique understanding of Iowa. This is a game they are all targeting to steal.

Add in a poor performance last week and the low opening line from Vegas (-11), and I think there is plenty opportunity for a close game if not an upset.

Fill the stadium, get there early and be loud. This could be fun to watch.

I think any advantage this may have presented will be off set by Iowa's loss last week. I think they are going to come in here angry and looking to make a statement.

Can one of them play QB?

No question the Iowa ties offer RU an advantage...

Hell. Yes.

Unless they're allowed as Iowans to sit in on the Hawkeye coach's meetings this week, I don't see how growing up in Iowa or playing there decades ago would have any effect good or bad.

I don't know. Any program, over the years, exhibits tendencies and patterns that might not all be obvious viewing game film from 2016 (or even 2015). Knowing about those things may provide a slight advantage.

Don't see it. If someone was to say Ash from coaching at Wisconsin or OSU (did they play?)knows Iowa or any of the coaches working against Iowa recently I could buy it somewhat.

Being from Iowa doesn't mean a thing IMHO.

The point is not they were born in Iowa. It is that they have either game planned against Iowa or played for Iowa for years. Mehringer noted that Iowa has changed defense over the past 10+ years. He knows what works and what doesn't.

Mentally I think players feel a psychic edge when they play a team their current coaches have experience with. Sort of cuts the other team down a peg and keeps them human

Being a Hawkeye fan, and having watched Hawkeye games since the late 70's I can say this. It really does not matter who Rutgers has as coaches. Iowa is as vanilla as it gets both offensive and defensively. Every opposing coach knows what Iowa is going to do. When Iowa is executing and focused, they do not beat themselves and are tough. When they aren't (like last week) they are beatable. But there really is not any insight opposing coaches need against Iowa so therefore I don't see any of the Iowa coaches making a difference. Maybe emotionally, but not as far as game planning.

Agreed. More of a known quantity and less intimidating.

Stopped reading right here. So Greg Schiano being born in NJ makes it a disadvantage for Rutgers when we visit Ohio State?

That can be said for any team.
