Others have posted, and I agree, that we don't have the player who can take over a game--and many of our oponents do. Who, if anyone will be "that guy"?

Possibly, no one. We don't have that guy, freshman or not-we've got solid B1G role players, but that's it. Or is it Caleb or Montez or Myles or Ron? And let's not forget about Geo, only a sophomore.

It's about even for me among three possibilities: it's gonna be Geo, it's gonna be Ron, we don't have that guy.

Thoghts?

OFF-season development required...

IMO, that type of guy is either a low post guy that can score at will when not doubled.....Myles Johnson may develop into it as his aggressiveness and finishing in the paint improves.

OR........A perimeter guy who can create his own shot or drive and finish. We have a few options that could develop.....Harper (in better shape), Geo (if he plays off the ball), Mathis ( ONLY if he improves his outside shot) and Young....who I think will bring a scorers mentality next year and has the quickness to.do it.

None of them are.close to.being.a James Palmer type who looks like he can score at will when he is hot.

well, just like can't miss blue chippers as and example suriano, and
ashnault in wrestling who come in as true, or red shirt freshmen and aa
i'm guessing the same would hold true with basketball....i love our guys, and if we are being honest. these kids are true over achievers. a credit to them, and of course to pike, and his great staff. ..you can't honestly think that one would come in and light it up this year..it may, or may not be next year..sure hoping one kid stands out ,as a go to guy for instant offense...if not pike has to land that can't miss recruit to take us to the next level. ....just to add to this...pike does more with less.than any coach in the big ten, or the nation..that's just my opinion, of course

I really agree with that. It’s either Geo, Ron, or it’s not on this roster

Kareem Abdul Jabbar called to say not to sleep on the Center. I think Myles Johnson is that guy and we may have more than one. Tez with more muscle is not out of the question either. Harper and Geo are on this list too.

McConnel could be the assassin we have needed from 3 for a long time.

That would be my list of 4 also.
Montez would be my top candidate. His instinctive ability to get to the rim, absorb contact, and finish is special. Yes, he had more than his share of head scratcher moments, but that explosive ability is clearly there. He must play smarter, learn to stop forcing the action, hit the weight room, get tougher mentally, and improve his FT %, because he will be spending A LOT of at the foul line the next 3 years.

Ummm I posted this before. Does pike have his Warney?
It’s probably Myles johnson

Myles is gonna be a force, but tough to be that guy as a big man

It’s geo/Ron
If Myles can consistently score 8-10 ppg and still get rebounds, that would really help. He has a huge upside if he learns how to shoot fouls. Just has to be one of the other guys.

I'm confused. Do you want a one and done? We already have 4 stars who potentially could become a pro, like Palmer, or do you all not think any of our guys have pro potential?

Harper is the only guy with pro potential and he is a long shot. None of these guys are in Quincy Doubys level and he didn’t make it.

Watching Miles Powell tonight? Lamar Stevens PSU? Palmer?

Where do we find one if those? They refuse to lose and are freaking clutch. Find one !!!!

It really doesn't have that much to do with a player's pro potential. It's about finding a go to guy who can turn it on and score buckets when his team needs them, a guy who can just carry his team on his back to victory. There are guys like that at the college level that can't cut it in the NBA. There are also guys that make fine role players in the NBA that can't produce like that in college.

Either y’all are thinking farther in the future or there is no love for the power forward guy, but I think Eugene deserves more love in this thread. He already has been our most reliable scorer. I think instead of working on the three, if he worked on a turnaround jumper out of the post, he’d be pretty sick with his already current post moves. He could be like our version of a Lamarcus Aldridge or Chris Webber. Add in some knee rehab and maybe some improved dunking ability and you got yourself a pretty well-rounded player. Of course, it’s easier said than done, but with the improvements he’s made over his Rutgers career, you never know.

Wish Corey stayed

No way. The progress this year would have been far less if Corey returned. What happened this year was the best thing for this team long term. When we played well this year, it’s was because “we shared the ball” as Pike would say. Words not uttered in prior years.

My response based on this season is that there was no go to scorer.Eugene was the most consistent double digit scorer but he was playing with a injured leg which limited his mobility to move outside and hit some jump shots.Harper and McConnell show potential because they can score from outside and drives to the basket.Baker has to get stronger and be more consistent with 3 pointers an drives to the basket.

Bottom line the Powell.Stevens ,Palmer type player isn't on Rutgers squad right now. There are lots of complementary type players that will have a double digit game and then disappear in future games. The collective inability to score 70 plus points on a regular basis is the difference between winning seasons and struggling as a perpetual bottom tier league team.
