rumors swirling....it would be a great move for them and probably help keep the BE tourney in NYC and help with the BE fox tv deal. Not so sure it would help some of the BE schools like SJU/SHU.

what do they do with football, there seems to be no way the AAC would allow them to be in the conference as football only...do they go to the MAC?

Both the Big East and Uconn are denying any talks between the two. However, you never know.

They'll join the Patriot League for football.

You gotta love that

Saw that coming when Hurley first hired and said so on this board and was repeatedly attacked by many then and again last year by many who wanted him for RU coach. Over rated. Whew!!!

Jim Baron is giggling too!

On the other hand SHU had a nice win. After Nova, Big East is wide open. Providence too.

All of the Hurleys are hard to root for.

I couldn't care less what U Conn does. As for Danny his team losing to Fordham at home is a really bad loss. RI was rated like #16 coming into the season.

RI would have been inside the bubble had they beaten Dayton other day (and obviously had they won last night). They actually play similiar to us. Don't shoot threes well, win with D, rebound like hell.

I can't see this unless Uconn wants to drop down in FB. Makes no sense without a solution for Football.

It makes sense. Football got left out of the musical chairs game. And let's face it, everything UCONN has achieved athletically and in terms of national branding was achieved on the backs of men's and women's basketball. This is a stronger hoops league with regional rivalries for them. I think that long term, men's basketball would be damaged staying in the AAC. It doesn't matter where the women play as long as Geno is around.

SHU fans like myself have very mixed feelings about UConn joining the new Big East. On one hand, it would be great for television ratings and putting fannies in the seats in the arenas, including MSG in the Big East Tournament. On the other hand, we are very leary of admitting a school with a Division 1 football program. The basketball only schools were burned by defections of the football schools which led to the gutting of the old Big East. If UConn gets an invite to the ACC, chances are they will defect from the new Big East because of their football program.

If they were to go back and rejoin the BE in its current form, I don't see them playing football in the MAC. If anything I see them going independent for awhile hoping that all of their teams would join a Power5 conference down the road.

Batts, I really don't think UCONN being a football school is anything for SHU or the Big East to worry about. Having one team with an FBS football program is very different than trying to co-exist as both a football and basketball league with a bunch of basketball onlies. The Big East is already a very strong men's basketball league. UCONN will make it stronger, not only in men's BB but in other sports as well. If they leave in a few years for an all sport league, so be it. It's only one team and it won't tear the league apart. I think it's a really good fit, provided UCONN figures out what they want to do with their football program.

It's a good move for their basketball program but it would be difficult to schedule games for football being independent. The only successful independent school has been ND, the others joined a conference. As long as they stay in the AAC will labor their pipelines.
