Doorson and Johnson 13 OREB

I like Doorson, but 4 points total from our three bigs isn't good, especially since 14 of their rebounds were offensive. I thought SHU's bigs outplayed RU. Their total rebounds were almost the same as RU's and Gill had a big impact blocking and altering shots, which is partly why we had so many missed shots. EO and Kiss were two whose near the basket misses were caused by SHU's bigs altering their shots. Even though the Hall took control of the game in the first half, I thought RU responded pretty well after their last game.

Like others have noted, 4 points off of 13 offensive rebounds is not good. Would be interested in figuring out how many attempts they even took off those rebounds versus kicking it out. Shaq was also credited with 3 steals.

Thats the issue, we are getting rebounds, but instead of our bigs going up strong we kick it out. One play Myles was 1 foot away and never looked to attack the rim, he immediately looked to kick it out. He needs to be more aggressive.

I saw the same thing in another game recently (can't remember which game). Myles got the rebound, had an open layup, but kicked it out to Eugene all the way at the top of they key. EO then proceeds to force a drive down the lane and get called for an offensive foul. Two points lost and another foul against us. I'd love to see our bigs go to the hole looking for contact.

The center and small forward positions need more scoring contributions for Rutgers to win future B1G games.

Johnson has a nasty habit of kicking out to the perimeter after offensive rebounds when he’s close enough to the basket to dunk or lay it in off the glass.

Most of these “offensive rebounds” were really just attempted tips off of misses, not the kind where they actually corral a rebound. And none of those tips went in the basket.

Doorson has been a major contributor in many games this year. His defense against other like sized big men has been very good. His rebounding has also been very good. He is shooting at a very high percentage and should not be blamed for the team's failure to get him the ball in the low post. Coach Pike lamented in the post game that this team takes too many long jumpers and does not feed the post enough. Our guards have not done a good job in that regard. I've seen many times this season where Doorson is open on the pick and roll, but no pass is made, or where he seals his man on the low block, but no entry pass is made. This is a major area that needs to improve for this team to be successful.

They shouldn't be minimized. What sunk us against Fordham were the multiple possessions that went a minute long that were fueled by offensive rebounds that were thrown back to the perimeter.

People on the messageboards have been lamenting, too, but Coach Pikiell is in a much better position to actually do something about it. :)

Agreed. One significant measure of a good basketball coach is his ability to get his players to execute his game plan. RU's youth and inexperience certainly complicates that this year. Hopefully, Pike and the team figures it out soon.

SHU's bigs help out and switch on perimeter defense which hurts rebounding. Your coach was pretty damn smart to exploit this weakness. Also, your bigs out muscled our bigs. Great job by your front line.

He takes too long to gather himself and jump after grabbing an offensive rebound.
If there is one thing that can make a difference in his offensive production, it is for Shaquille to grab rebound and go up strong with 2 hands keeping ball high. If he could do that alone that is 6 points per game. It also applies to all our bigs.

Like Doorson too but does not finish around basket.
He does when he actually shoots it – – he is about 79% for the year. He needs to look to score when he is around the offensive glass.
