Here is the letter in full:

Dear Coach Flood,

I am certain that you and your entire football organization are experiencing
high levels of stress in light of recent events. I am writing to remind you
that many of us in the community are familiar with your vision, accomplishments and commitment to high standards, and that it is our prayer that the leadership of Rutgers University (RU) and the community at large will consider these events within the overall context of your tenure and work.

I want you and your entire organization to know that the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens (FBCLG) congregation and communities of faith throughout the state are available to you, your staff, players, and their families for any resources that we may be able to provide.

We have a longstanding relationship with RU Athletics, particularly the Women's Basketball and Men's Football teams. For years we have worshipped together, celebrated your victories, and encouraged you in times of difficulty.

We are intimately aware that under your leadership the football program has performed many tremendous deeds both on and off the field, both in and off-season, both at RU and in the community.

You have led this organization with dignity in the fishbowl of university life and college athletics. In this environment, negative events always seem to attract the publicity that positive ones never do and condemnation often comes before consideration.

But because in this great land we are considered innocent until proven guilty, our congregation will respond to the needs of your players just as we would any other member of the community.

Coach Flood, please do not become discouraged. Unfortunately, all parents, pastors, professors and coaches have experiences with young people in their care who have stumbled.

In fact, many of us made mistakes in our college years from which we've recovered and gone on to live fruitful lives of service. Our most important work, which you do on a daily basis, is to help young people in need.

Please continue to lead this fine team as you have in the past; with integrity and passion, and know that the 7000-plus members of FBCLG and churches across the state of New Jersey are cheering and praying for you.

With Warm Regards,

Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr.

Senior Pastor

First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens

Very nice, touching letter. It counters the lynch mob that NJ.com, and now Gannett, has mobilized. Too bad it gets very little exposure as the media suppresses such pieces.

Beautiful for him to reach out to Flood and the program like this........some good news for a change.

Pastor Soaries had all 100 players, the coaching staff and their families at his service on August 23. He has supported Rutgers and it's players for years.

he also tweeted this yesterday:

Nice to see.

Very nice and it's great to see the support Dr.Soaries.gave Coach flood and RU

The WHAT in you?

hahahahahaah

just breakin' your balls...but it took me about 5 seconds to figure out what the f@ck you were trying to say.

I thought it was supposed to be "psychic" at first....but that didn't work in the sentence. Then I realized it was supposed to be "cynic"

You mean #spellingpolice

hahahaha

see you in the morning :P

It's pretty obvious that anyone who actually knows Kyle Flood and the team are in almost universal support of him.

Hudson...totally agree but given the context and environment we can do without the profanity references regardless how faint they may be. Show some respect and grow up please. It takes much away from.a great endorsement.

Fantastic example of what the Rutgers Family is all about. To have the entire team share something like this is what lessons learned off the field and not in the classroom are all about. Extremely proud to be a Rutgers alumnus and to be able to share something like this with friends and fellow alumni.

Thank you Dr. Soaries. Hopefully Barchi will also digest this and share it with certain faculty and key people let alone the media.

how long before the Rutgers chapter of whatever that "remove Faith movement" (or whatever it is called ) working to get the athletic Chaplin ousted at University of Washington makes a stink about this here too. I am sure only a matter of time.

By the way..very nice letter

You have to admit though it's a little off having your entire team at a religious gathering. What if Kyle Flood was a Scientologist or something? I know this is harmless but should a coach really be bringing a state university team to a place of worship? (Crap, I hope this isn't Politi's next headline).

Well, now we know where CVS stands as she and Soaries have been thick as thieves for so many years. Thank you Dr. Soaries for your well thought out letter. Wish it could be circulated to as many people as possible some how.

Schiano used to do it once a year right before the season started. They would go to st Matthias in somerset. I think it is a somewhat common practice.

I'm sure it is, especially down South. I just think it's an odd practice. I don't think a coach should be promoting any religion at all especially an employee of the state like a head coach of a public university. Like I said it's harmless, it's just a philosophical thing I think those at top should think about.

Could not have gotten a better endorsement from anyone. Period.

In another thread, you said, "it's not like these are serious crimes like COUNTERFEITING" and some other random things. And you're worried about my "language" on a message board? My post had nothing to do with the letter, so not sure who's endorsement I'm taking "much away from." Piscataway and I have sparred a bit on the CE board. We generally like each and it's friendly back and forth. But I'll tell ya what. I'll edit my post just for you. Now in return, I ask that you reconsider your position about what constitutes a serious crime. Cause your current position really hurts my sensibilities of sane v. crazy.

kthanks

They're grown men and could have opted out. Our touchy-feely culture is so out of whack that the only publicly acceptable ideas we are willing to expose people to are non-theological. People should be exposed to all ideas and left to themselves to decide their veracity. As for Soaries and Co., the team being exposed to a man whose organization was capable of writing such a letter, both in heart and verbiage, I would encourage anyone to at least hear him once in their lives. And I don't even know the man.
