What am I missing? I understand trying to maximize ticket revenue, but isn't it time to drop the prices. Current prices range from $110 for endzone to $250 for sideline. This is well above Stub Hub prices that are now as low as $60 (less than $80 with fees). The lowest stubhub price with fees was about $100 a day ago. At this point RU needs to be competitive with the rest of the market. We should drop the price to a least $80 tomorrow to keep pace with the recent drop at StubHub.

Outside of the student section there are about 740 tickets still left on the RU site. From my count only about 80 tickets were sold since this morning in the lower bowl. Don't we want this sold out. Let's stop pinching pennies and sell the rest of the tickets. Wouldn't calling this a sellout create more buzz for the game?

The goal of dynamic pricing is to get to a sellout practically the day before. They are maximizing ticket revenue against the #4 team in the country. Selling tickets at the prices we have been selling them has already made more money than if we already sold out the place.

This. You have a few people still waiting to hear about the storm as well. Plus some people, especially older ones, don't want to deal with secondary markets.

I don't think you understand.

I do understand to this point as the market prices and RU prices were close. But today there was a drop in market prices as we are getting close to the game. I would think it's time to get rid of the rest. There are only three selling days left; at today's rate we won't sell half of what's remaining. Simple math, would you want to sell 700 tickets for an average price of $100 or 350 for $150?

Stubhub prices do not matter. Rutgers set a price point at this game and have probably met or went above the revenue they wanted. Unfortunately the demand is lower than they want coming into the game but they won't change supply prices because of that.

The OP may be right, or not. We won't know until game time. One thing the OP is discounting is walk ups. Just for the record, the difference between 700 @ 100 and 350 @ 150 is only $17,500. The actual break even between $100 and $150 is 467 tickets. Let's see what happens.

, but isn't it time to drop the prices.

No. Dropping prices gives people an incentive to hold off on buying tickets for future games, and to buy them late if they think prices will drop closer to game day.

Part of the purpose of dynamic pricing is to encourage people to buy tickets early, knowing that prices will only go up if they wait.

If you don't care about where you sit, you're guaranteed to get a cheaper price buying from the sellers on the way to the stadium. Getting a ticket at a reasonable price is never an issue.

You make a very good point.

But, if our prices are way off the mark, it gives people the incentive to just buy them from StubHub. Right now, I can buy 2 tickets in section 123 on StubHub with fees for a total of $190; they are selling for a total of $378 with fees through RU. We will end up getting $0. 2 endzone tickets on StubHub with fees this morning would be $160 vs. $236 through RU. Bottom line, RU prices go down closer to the game, not up; we are not at the point where fans are climbing fences to get into the game. I just want the place sold out; and as a side benefit, it might quiet down one of my least favorite posters on this site.[banana][banana]

At those "dynamic prices" it better come with a "Hobbs Job" on my knob. Dynamic prcing only creates bad will-offer those seats to current season tcketholders (to expand their seasts0 for a donation)-at least initially.
You were given a chance to buy extras prior to general public being able to purchase. They already made an effort on your behalf.

The revenue generated by those high dynamic prices( even with several hundred left) will far offset any increase in ticket sales by lowering the price by 66%.

I know that, I was talking about going forward.

Which would you prefer if given a choice ? a sold-out stadium or more revenue for Rutgers ? I select sold-out stadium. It makes the game more fun, creates excitement, looks good on TV, etc. I'm less interested in Rutgers maximizing revenue, but others think differently.

I don't think a few hundred people make a difference.

Whether you broke or rich you gotta get biz havin' money's not everything not havin' it is.

I do not have tickets for the game and am going to scalp at the gate. If no tickets are available will walk to downtown New Brunswick and watch the game at Old Queens or harvest Moon.

Rutgers should drop prices to match Stub Hub and other reseller sites. It is all supply and demand. Pricing reflects the supply vs demand.

For every ticket you sell you probably make more with parking and food sales.

I'm pretty sure many of those tickets on Stub Hub are placed there by the Rutgers ticket office.

Folks who have paper tickets have to sell today or they come off the market. This is their last shot to sell, so they're getting desperate.

Mine sold, but the stub hub notification went to my junk folder. One less thing to deal with.

Rutgers is probably selling the same exact seats on Stubhub at lower prices. Just bring in the $$$$. That's all that matters. $$$$

If Rutgers has 400 tickets available at game time they still make more money and those tickets will suddenly disappear and they will call ot a sell out.

740 tickets 3+ days out isn't a lot at all IMHO. Not with people waiting until tomorrow or Friday to be 100% sure about the hurricane and also taking into account last year as well as last week's beating. Pretty good # actually. I was hoping for 2k remaining on sk.com and SH combined by today.

Remember to toss in a #stripethebirthplace reminder and let your buyer know what color to wear. I printed a screen capture of stripethebirthplace.com with my ticket info entered and the resulting color shown.

RU has dropped the lowest price to $100 today from $110 and has had minimal success. Based on my count, there remains just over 700 tickets, so very little (around 5%) have sold compared to last night.

if the fans buying the tickets are Michigan fans they will screw up the stripe on purpose.

Stubhub prices on Tuesday nights and Wednesday morning's don't matter. As a couple people above mentioned--those with paper tickets had to sell them by 3pm today. I bought a ticket on stubhub at 2:58pm today for 45 bucks---all of the hard ticket inventory got taken down at 3pm and suddenly the cheapest ticket was $117 + about $20 in fees. RU has the dynamic pricing right in line with where it should be despite sub-$100 tix on Stubhub last night.

Wrong. What are you looking at? The lowest price is currently $65 plus fees and there are 343 tickets below $100.

After I bought I didn't look again after 3:15pm but you're obviously right now (the crap ton of tickets on there for the top of 227 for $80 seems fishy though--wonder if those are some of RU's unsold tix)

The tickets were always there; there were 1,700, now down to 1,000. There are plenty in the lower bowl below $100. The seats in 227 and other top sections are not the unsold tickets that were on the RU site yesterday or this morning. If they put them there, which is possible, it wasn't in the last few days.

they will call it a sellout even if it isnt one and there will certainly be at least 1K no shows and probably more

A lot harder to get a true "sellout" with dynamic pricing at $100 + a ticket.

This game has essentially been sold out in my opinion. If dynamic pricing wasn't in play and seats were $60 a piece like the pre-dynamic days this thing would have been sold out a month ago, maybe earlier.

Maximizing Revenue = more $ = Better Coaching $taff and better facilities.
Believe I want a packed stadium but the $$$ will build the program.
