EJ Barthel's Status

he seems to be extremely active with Rutgers stuff on his twitter account.

Dont know anything for sure but that seems to suggest hes being retained.

Are you sure that he didn't use a different wording in terms of his contract status through signing day?

He hasn't even followed any of the new assistants on Twitter, has he?

Or he is just doing his job and saying the right things for end of the 2016 recruiting cycle.

Interesting ...'retained' ? in what capacity ?

his job title has been - Rutgers Football Recruiting Coordinator
so, how does Coach Ash see that role?

Is EJ Barthel a genuine match for Coach Ash's definition of the role? or is he a match for some other significant responsibility ? Is EJ's strength in the direct-to-recruit interaction area - or does EJ have a larger strategic vision of how to make a giant leap forward?

Did EJ sit down with Coach Ash and say "here's my view - here's 10 technology enhancements that I'd make if we had the money - here's how I'd structure the process & the staff"

I am 1000% certain that Coach Ash has a very, very clear vision (with descriptions and flow charts) as to how recruiting should be structured & should operate & what additional technology & human resources MUST be added into the mix in order to move the RU recruiting process to a much much higher level.
Ash is going to want comprehensive strategic recruiting master plans that are dynamic - so that there is never an "Oh Crap ... what do we do now?" moment ... figure that Ash is one of those guys who says "I hate surprises" ...

Have a hunch that Coach Ash is also going to bring in one or more individuals with a few years of recruiting experience - question is - will they be in leadership role - or - superstar strategic operational support role?

Uh oh, I heard Barthel was planning a surprise b-day party in order to get into Ash's good graces. Might want to rethink that one.

I think it would be a great move by Coach Ash to retain EJ. He has the connections in NJ, the charisma to convince top tier talent to visit, and with Coach Ash, now hopefully he has the closer that has been lacking to get those top tier kids to commit.

Hasn't Ash said he's creating a new administrative position solely for NJ recruiting? If so, is he likely to bring in 2 new people or would EJ be a good fit to either keep his current position or fill the other?

I talked w him last week and he was hopeful to be retained. I'm pushing for my nephew Tadas Taturunas , but there are higher priorities now than 2018s. EJ is a good guy.

Really? Where did you see that?

I read the same about Ash saying he would create that position. I have a feeling there will be a few more 'Quality Control' positions added.

When the budget for the staff was released people thought it meant we could/would use the additional funds to pay a DC/OC more than we traditionally have.

Knowing the types of programs Ash comes from I thought the additional money would be used on these types of positions. While not officially "coaches", these types of roles and the additional headcount it brings is what allows a school like OSU to seperate themselves from everyone else.

While we are no where close to OSU revenues, the fact that Ash may be creating these roles today is exciting to see. That he aspires to build his program like these other "bigtime" programs is a great thing for RU.

Interesting - certainly would be a great feat of ingenuity - find quality young & promising coaches who will be economical for 2-3-4 years & stretch the funds to add "quality control specialists"
If it works - more funds will become available ... and more guys-on-the-rise will be looking at RU for an opportunity.

Will be very interesting to see how much we are paying some of these guys. It does make some sense that we may be covering more than the 9 traditional coaches out of the assistant coach salary budget.

Stop with the fallacy we raised our coaching budget significantly. We had a 5-12% increase from Flood. If you look at college coaching inflation of salary is running faster than that.

Choice is bring in young staff or guys from lower level. Our budget is not horrible (neither was our old budget), but its not high enough to steal other p5 coaches.

Anyone know how much the job pays
$60k +/- It's a secretary type job mostly maintaining a .xls of recruits with continuous updates. Track social media and prospect activity and give reports to the coaches on demand. I inquired when Tariq Ahmad was RC. The job posting is quite misleading.
