Emergence of Justin Kim

He’s really putting it together. It’s allowed us to move Aimone to the second line to give them more juice.
He’s a legit big dude, none of that roster size inflation metrics, nice to be pleasantly surprised by his scoring. Seems better in his movement and shot selection?

His movement is more fluid and he’s getting shots on the cage now. He’s also making better decisions. He’s obviously much more comfortable.

Kim stepping up is huge. Our blueprint for midfield is to have an initiator who will dodge to score or draw and dump, which is Knobloch, a speed dodger there is trying to get down the alley and score, which is Sprock (last year Jacoby filled that role though he was a good feeder too). The piece we have been missing is big bull dodger that can step down from range even with guys on his gloves and force doubles that leave guys open on the crease, ala Bartolo / Kirst. Kim has filled that role the last two games.

Having Kim with the 1s improves the flow when he is on the field because it adds another dynamic that was missing. The 2s are improved because Aimone now fills Knobloch’s role as initiator with that line, which is what has been missing IMO. They need someone who can force the issue and create his own shot or be a feeder. That frees Civetti to be more of a crease guy / finisher and the other mids to play more of a complimentary role.

Add Cameron to the mix and there are now two big body outside shooters that can also get to the cage. That makes us a lot tougher to defend. When Cameron was out and Kim was not playing a big role, we didn’t have that, and defenses were able to pack the middle and slide early without consequences.

I have it from a good source that he has been a very tough cover in practice for 2 years now and it’s always just been about confidence and getting a window for a chance…he’s gotten a chance and he’s playing with confidence. Good for him. Good kid and his emergence is needed

He’s always has the physical tools. He is a specimen.
