Ex-Rutgers star Geo Baker after loss to Seton Hall: ‘Who is going to take that big shot?’

In an interview following the latest debacle., he observed that no RU player seems to want to take the big shot at the end of a game. I agree with him 100%. We need some leaders to take charge. Also 19 turnovers is awful. Combining those with a bad shooting night was the recipe for disaster.

What does that have to do with the football team

This is exactly what this team is missing and why we've come up on the losing end of these tight games. No one has stepped up to fill the Ron and Geo role of draining the big shot to close out a win. Someone has got to step up or it's going to be a frustrating season.

The team has played 10 games and its getting late to identify the go to scorer(s).

I dunno...Hyatt seems willing to take the shot...problem is he's misfired in the close of the past two games.

Hyatt tried to take one, Caleb tried to take one even Cam had one rim out that would have put us up four during a key spot. That wasn't the issue. If we weren't stagnant on O throughout that game, you're not in that position.

Maybe he needs to get the ball but actually back up and take a 3 instead of attempting a layup next time?

True, he hesitated a split second which cost him a good look, leading to a more difficult shot. But again, this was not the problem on Sunday.

Agreeing with Geo here.
RU lost a NBA-caliber shooter in Harper, a special player who had a knack for stepping up in big moments in Geo and even two years ago a guy who had the ability and make-up to be electric in the clutch (Jacob Young). I don't see that kind of player on this roster, at least not yet.

Caleb and Paul do a lot of great things, but that's not their game. Derek will hopefully get there, but he's a frosh. Cam, too, he does a lot but that's not him.

This team will be successful by playing lights out D and wearing teams down. Not by shooting the lights out and offensive heroics.

I don’t think you can force this. Not many college teams have guys like geo or rhj that you really fear in the end game. Our guys all need to be confident to run the offense and take a good shot when it’s there. If it doesn’t go in so be it but run the O and take the shot.
