Quotables
Robert Martin on playing at a heavier weight:
“The extra weight has helped a lot. I am more powerful, more explosive.”
Chris Laviano on playing Michigan:
“We are excited for another ranked opponent to come into our stadium at night time in a really great environment. You couldn’t ask for anything more with this game coming up.”
Chris Ash on Laviano bearing the brunt of the criticism for the offense’s production:
“I mean, it's the nature of the beast. When things go well on offense, who usually gets a lot of credit? The quarterback. When things don't do well, who usually gets a lot of the criticism? Quarterbacks. Everybody talks about a football teams's quarterback. That's just the nature of the business. If you don't want to be in that coverings, don't be a quarterback.

Recruiting Tidbits
‘17 OL Owen Bowles (Cedar Creek - NJ):
The RU commit has been very vocal about Rutgers since his commitment and will be on campus this weekend
“I’m heading to Rutgers this weekend with Bo [Melton] to check out their game vs. Michigan," Bowles said. "I’m hoping to just see some constant improvement from the team. I’m hoping to see the guys come out fired up and not wait until later in the game to get the offense going."
’17 DE Brendan Bordner (Hilliard Bradley - OH):
The Ohio product is off to a fast start this season and played in front of some RU coaches last weekend as the staff made good use out of the team’s trip to Ohio.
“We lost 20-6 last week vs. Dublin Scioto, but I still finished with six tackles, three TFL’s and a sack. Coaches Okruch and Burnham came to see me,” Bordner said. “They were talking me about how they liked watching me get after the quarterback, and that I played pretty hard. I’m planning out my official visits and I think I’ll be heading over to Rutgers on December 9th. I’m also working on checking out West Virginia, Kentucky, and Navy as well.”
’17 LB Louis Acceus (St. Joe’s Regional - NJ)
Rutgers remains in strong pursuit of the NJ linebacker, who could provide some immediate help at a position of need. Acceus provided an update on the latest going on with him.
“So far, the season is going pretty well, but I need to pick it up a little bit. For recruiting, everything is pretty much the same, I’m planning on heading over to Rutgers this Saturday for their game. I talk to coaches Busch, Niemann, and Ash a lot. They just want me to get to campus to spend some time with them. I like Rutgers a lot right now, but they are not at the top of my list. Maryland is currently on top for me, I’m hopefully planning a visit to go down there soon."
’18 WR Justin Oden (Spring Hill - TN)
The brother of RU freshman QB Tylin Oden holds a Rutgers offer as he continues to get recruited by the staff. He talked about what it has been like watching his older brother play as a true freshman.
“I’m pretty excited for Tylin, and I really hope he gets the opportunity to start pretty soon. My family and I watch all of his games on TV, that is of course unless we aren’t at the games. We were most recently at the Iowa-Rutgers game, it was a fun game to watch."
’18 TE Elijah McAllister (Rumson Fair-Haven - NJ)
One of the few tight ends being recruited by Rutgers, McAllister will be back on campus this weekend. He also offered an update on his recruitment.
“I’m heading to the Rutgers-Michigan game on Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing how the coaches coach on game day, how the atmosphere is at Rutgers, and just how intense the players become. I talk to coaches Ash and Burnham the most from Rutgers. They mostly talk about how I can change Rutgers the minute I get there. Also, they need players like me in order to compete with the best. Right now I have Tennessee on top and I’m also hearing from Penn State, Maryland, Virginia, and Pitt as well as Rutgers.”
’18 DB Shayne Simon (St. Peter’s Prep - NJ)
Coming off a loss to Paramus Catholic last weekend, Simon is eager to get back out on the high school gridiron with his St, Peter's Prep squad.
“Getting ready for our game this week, it’s big because it’s bounce back week. Other than that I’m doing good so far, I’m just trying to make some plays on the ball,” Simon said. “As for recruiting, I’ve been talking to coaches Busch and Ash a lot about my season, their season, and how the year is going in general. They’ve just been constantly saying that they want me up at Rutgers as many times as possible. I like the way the program is moving and how the future looks for them."
