Bobby’s Crystal Ball
Four Rutgers freshmen will play on defense this season

Recruiting Tidbits
’18 LB J. Jean-Baptiste (Bergen Catholic - NJ):
While he isn’t visiting Rutgers this weekend for the BBQ, Jean-Baptiste is still a priority target for the Scarlet Knights. He is also hearing a lot from UCF, Temple, Toledo, and Purdue. The way things are trending, it seems as though Baptiste could visit Rutgers very soon, so stay tuned for more in the coming weeks on this one.

OL Khris Banks (DePaul Catholic - NJ)
If he should make it to campus this weekend, there is a chance that Banks could be on flip watch. Rutgers is still looking for one more O-lineman in this class. However, Banks could potentially platy d-tackle as well. That means Rutgers could take Banks and possibly another O-lineman like Connor Scaglione. Both of those prospects will be on campus this weekend and they are two to watch.

DE Jamree Kromah
(Flowers- MD)
The class of 2018 DE target committed to Old Dominion the other day over a couple of other offers. During camp season he liked Rutgers a lot and was real close to committing before looking elsewhere. This is something to note, especially with no defensive lineman committed yet to RU’s class of 2018. The staff could opt to push for him despite his ODU commitment.

LB Noah Taylor (Avalon School – MD)
Rutgers has been targeting a lot of linebacker targets as of late in the class of 2018. Taylor is an interesting target because he has been committed to UVA since back in of August of 2016. If he makes it to the Rutgers campus, it could make things interesting. That is not saying he will be on flip watch right away, but would show that he is open to listening to what Rutgers has to say.

The Suriano Watch
This developing story is such a big one that it deserves its own section. So here is the latest on 125-pound super wrestler Nick Suriano. Things are still trending well for Rutgers as Scarlet Nation has learned that Suriano wants to go to RU, but the only hangup now is waiting for a Big Ten waiver that would keep Suuriano from losing a year of eligibility. However, PSU head coach Cael Sanderson is not going down without a fight. Sanderson has even traveled to New Jersey this week to plead his case to Suriano in person. Word is that Sanderson's efforts have been to no avail and that Suriano is ready to trade in his nittany blue wrestling tights for scarlet red. That has prompted Sanderson to make a play to release Suriano, but would not help him get that extra year of eligibility. That would mean that Suriano would just have two more years to wrestle at Rutgers and three if he remained at PSU. But losing an extra year of eligibility might not be that huge of a concern as Suriano is looking to take things even further and represent Team USA on the Olympic level. He has the talent level to make that happen and even if he loses a year of eligibility, it appears as though his future wrestling career will take place as a Scarlet Knight.

Saturday BBQ at Rutgers
The Rutgers coaching staff reached out to Jayson and Justin Amedilola, both of whom are Notre Dame commits out of St. Peter’s Prep. The staff extended a BBQ invitation to them and this has been consistent with the staff’s efforts once they committed to Notre Dame. Even if the Ademilolas do not attend the BBQ, don’t expect Chris Ash and company to go away.

** Rutgers commit

Eye on Rutgers
As training camp approaches, we have taken a look at multiple positions and players as we continue to preview Rutgers’ 2017 campaign. The Eye on Rutgers’ now focuses on some superlatives for each respective class.

Freshman sleeper: Tim Barrow
The incoming freshman is very athletic and has a good skillset on both sides of the football. There is a wide open No.4 cornerback position heading into training camp and there is no reason that Barrow cannot lock down that spot. Barrow may not have been the most highly-recruited freshman, but there is a good chance many schools will regret not offering him.

Sophomore superlative: Juwuan Briscoe
The Georgia transfer actually played two seasons, but is redshirting this year, which technically makes him a redshirt sophomore. Briscoe brings very good speed to the field and while some fans may not consider him a burner, he is among the fastest players on the team. When he gets eligible next year, watch out.

Rising junior: Kevin Wilkins
Defensive tackle Kevin Wilkins is a redshirt junior this season and has the chance to really come into his own. The talent level has always been high, even back in Wilkins’ high school playing days. Now, the future is all in his hands as Wilkins could sneak up and be one of the most productive juniors on this year’s team. However, if Wilkins gets in his own way, the d-tackle position could feature other players getting a good number of game reps ahead of him.

Senior Star: Dorian Miller
If senior quarterback Kyle Bolin puts up big numbers passing, that could lead to seniors Damon Mitchell and Janarion Grant also putting up big numbers at the wide receiver position. Senior Robert Martin could also have a big season running the football. But if all of the above happen, there is another senior who deserves credit and that is starting left guard Dorian Miller. The offense is going to rely heavily on the offensive line and Miller is the anchor on that unit. So if the offense thrives, it is players like Miller, who deserve a lot of the credit.
