Final Record: 6-24

it speaks for itself really and no excuses to be that bad just because one player is out...this team would likely be below 500 with Tyler

unacceptable is right, just like the 9-20 record Rutgers had in the 20021-02 season wasn't acceptable to any and all RU WBB fans.

totally different....Cappie was on the sidelines. Tyler is good but she isnt the best player we ever had suit up in the CVS era if not any era....Cappie was an immediate game changer. Plus the players on that team were very talented...I know Chelsea was on that team, some others as well. The issue with that team was that it only had 7 players and sometimes 6...it was also 2001...are you comparing CVS at the top of her game to CVS in 2017...all the while the game has changed drastically....total apples and oranges

This ^^^.....that was a long time ago when CVS was still in her prime.
I've tried to search for it and can't.....if anyone can find the roster for Cappie's first year of eligibility, please post.

So glad not to hear your obnoxious and sarcastic bs for a long time. You and a couple of other sarcastic posters are a joke just like the present CVS is as a coach.

Hobbs will probably not cut CVS loose because of her past history. We will all pay the price.

The saddest thing is that the future RU players will rely on people like you, thinking that it is an honor to play for the HALL of Fame CV Stringer. Not realizing she could not even make it as a high school coach.

With CVS we will be mediocre at best until Hobbs finally has no choice but to let her go. Her ego will not allow her to be truly introspective and resign in the best interest of the program she loves and the women who dedicate a good part of their life to play for RU.

Her return is truly a major disaster for the RU WBB team. A MAJOR DISASTER!

Mad hat. DMD's post about her husband being in the hospital really hit me in the heart. This is only a game. I truly apologize to you for my comments. We both love RU WBB. That is all that matters. I wish you and all the posters my love and look forward to agreeing and debating next years team, no matter who the coach is. It is only a game compared to so much else we deal w in life. I am not proud that I got out of hand.

See you not year my friend!

Don't worry about it, I understand feelings get pretty high at times on boards like this and it's best not to take things too personal.
I didn't see your apology before posting the gif and since the post you apologized for was still up, figured this gif was funny enough to keep.
But neither of us should dislike another RU WBB fan , just disagree strongly at times and get along other times.
No harm, no foul on this interaction between us as far as I'm concerned.:okay:

Hopefully, fans can at least agree on the fact that the performance of the football and the two basketball teams against league competition needs improvement.

I haven't followed WBB for a while here. I was surprised to see that they had such a bad record this season. Is it recruiting/coaching? She's a Hall of Fame coach, isn't she? Has she changed what she is doing? Did all the starters get injured?

the difference is that the WBB program was a top tier team unlike MBB and FB, slight improvement was noted with the MBB program while the jury is still out if there is any improvement with the football program

A little of everything you mention:

- It has been a long time since RU had an "impact" recruit (and there have been long discussions about the failure of the "Imus" class, FWIW). Lately, much of the talent has not been top tier. Factors include those associated with an aging coach (retention / retirement), the also associated decline in "name" value, the facilities issues now being corrected, and ultimately the difficulty in attracting top players to a program somewhat seen as being in decline and playing a style that is probably not popular with many of the recruits.
- Coaching is a factor in a couple of ways. The loss of long term assistant coaches before the start of last season, combined with her abscenses due to her mother's illness and death last season, certainly had a factor last season that may have "hung over" into this season. But above that, the style that CVS favors (regardless of tweaks, which I don't doubt have been made) ultimately is about superior defense giving the team a fighting chance to outscore the opponent - even pull upsets. It has been a very long time since an upset, and there is general agreement that while this style, with the right players, could certainly produce NCAA level teams, no one is likely to make the FF anymore with that style.
- And finally, yes, the best players were on the bench this season. Our only impact player, projected 1st team all B1G was medically red- shirted. We lost a player to an ACL tear. We had 3 transfers that couldn't play due to NCAA transfer rules, and I'm not getting into a controversy over how good they are or not (I am eschewing that aspect of this board) they were all contributors on the teams they came from, none a "star", if I understand correctly.

Mix all this together and you get this season, which was (sadly) predicted to be tough from the beginning, apparently. On the eye test, one saw moments of skill combined with some truly awful basketball.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like with the style of play we have, recruits aren't as inclined to come, plus all the other factors. Just wondering if that program will continue to decline, or maybe it's just a "really bad luck" kind of year. It doesn't look like we're getting any blue chippers next season to help us out? Takes less good players to come aboard in basketball to make a difference than it does in football...

The landscape of women's basketball has changed radically since 2007. There are now, more than ever, many times the amount of polished players and coaches. Some of the younger coaches are establishing HOF careers. Parity is more prevalent these days The available talent pool makes for a larger amount of competitive teams. Rutgers had an off year, but it has gotten more difficult to win anyway. Almost everybody is more competitive. It is not that RU became that much worse, the other teams have gotten so much better. This is unlike the times when Grentz & CVS could grab all the major talent and everybody else only got the rest. Women's bball hasn't passed Vivian by, it has only caught up to her.

A lot of truth here, too. I would say that, however, there is an increase in highly talented but not polished players coming into the college ranks. This hurts the longer term coaches more, because their styles - whether or play or coaching - counts on players to have a certain grasp of fundamentals that is often lacking in today's recruits. Hence, at one time, better players would be able to "read" the defense leading to "best" offensive chances, much has been written about today's players not having developed those type of skills (since, at a lower level and especially in AAU ball) there wasn't all that much defense being played.

Very good points, and I think that this probably frustrates CVS.
Recruiting-wise, I've been wondering for awhile about how that's been impacted by our move to the B1G. CVS used to be able to promise recruits that they'd play the likes of UConn or ND at least once or twice per season. And for players from the northeast whose parents want to attend away games are faced with longer distances than in the old BE days. (Not an excuse - I'm just wondering whether this has had an impact.)
