What are your thoughts on the new deal between BTN and Flo

OK, I will preface this to say 95% of the time I will be just watching Rutgers Wrestlers. I do not spend much time watching other duals (My time is somewhat limited). I have signed up for BTN Plus for the past 3 years (before that I watched R Vision). I watched every BTN Plus broadcast of RU last year.
I sign up from Nov through the NCAA's.
I am somewhat afraid to sign up on flo (ths cost is slightly more) but i do see Flo covers a few tourneys that BTN will not (Journeyman duals?).

Does anyone have a lot of experience with Flo? How are their streaming services?
Cost is an issue for me, but I should be able to come with a few extra duckets to get Flo.

Note
I made it to my 1st RU Football game this year (ok, it was only Morgan State) and I plan on making it to one of the RY duals at the RAC.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Get Flo!!! You will save 60-75 bucks by not having BTN plus(I think Flo is 120 or 150 per year). It is worth it for just the Flo Originals, but covering all the Big matches is huge. I have not had any streaming issues(except the PSU vs OSU match). Apple Tv has the Flo app which makes the picture even better. Well worth it.

Pro's and Cons

If just for Wrestling viewing I would go to Flo. I however enjoy other sports as well (lacrosse, soccer, volleyball) To that extent I generally keep BTN Plus and supplement it with Flo during the Wrestling Season.

Flow does not cover BTN matches unless something changed for this season.

I only pay for BTN plus as the BIG10 conference is my main college wrestling viewing. I pay the extra 5 a mont to watch all the Big 10 teams.

Flow is great for HS and international tournaments and some college duals.
Their site has streaming issues at times while BTN is usually terrific w video quality.

^^THIS Exactly. Flo well worth it before and now it's even better with all the BTN+ matches. Saves me $75 a year! I agree 100% with Scarlet..the apple TV app has been flawless for me as well..I must have been one of the lucky ones, as I didn't even have and issue with the PSU/OkieState match

Willie just posted on BWI that Flo will have the other BTN sports, as well. Straight from the horses mouth:

"Flo will also have the BTN+ games from other sports on our respective platforms. (Soccer right now is on FloLive). Ex. PSU Volleyball games on BTN+ will be on flovolleyball.

so if you have a yearly membership to flo, you'll get that too"

A couple of notes on streaming "problems."

1. The biggest streaming problem they've ever had was for the PSU v. OSU dual championship match last year. They were not prepared for the volume and crashed. They issued piles of refunds and had lots of cancellations over it. Floreani says they are improving that situation.
2. Keep in mind that a lot of streaming issues can be on your end.
a. Flo has a lot of ads, and if you run an ad blocker, it bogs the site down.
b. I have found Mozilla Firefox absolutely sucks for streaming. (Flo, in particular.) I don't know why, but I have switched over to Chrome and literally had 0 issues last year after switching. None.

So what does this mean for those who subscribe to both? Should I just cancel BTN+? Or will Flo only be carrying some of the matches...

You do not need BTN+ Flo will stream every BigTen match(except the ones that are on TV, but that was the same at BTN+)

W BTN PLUS You also get all the other Big10 sports, so if you like Basketball and Baseball, like I do, you watch all these sports. Flo is just wrestling, obviously.

Looks like the subscription is 12.50 a month.
Wonder what they paid the B10 to get broadcast rights?

Although there is no basketball or baseball, Flo does in fact have other sports, including BIG10 volleyball. Go to flowrestling.com, look in the top left hand corner for the words: powered by flosports - when you click on those words you will then see the list of all the other flo sports sites- just click on the sport you desire to get to that site. I am unsure whether each and every flo site has premium content that is only accessible with the same subscription. Personally, I have watched premium content on flograppling for jujitsu tournaments. When you get a subscription to flowrestling, you also get access to premium content on the following :
Network

Flo has basketball. FloHoops!

if you subscribe yearly to any of the Flo sites you get them all. Flo is also working on finding a way to stream any BTN Plus content that doesn't have a dedicated sport site. stay tuned!

so the main upside here is if you already have a yearly subscription to Flo, now you don't need to sign up for BTN Plus. if you don't have a Flo yearly subscription, we just added a massive slate of Big Ten content add no extra cost to entice you to sign up.

the one thing to keep in mind is that the BTN cable channel is separate from BTN Plus. if BTN the cable channel is airing a dual meet, it won't be on either Flo OR BTN plus.

Are you affiliated with Flo ? Also, does Screwy Louie still do some commentating for Flo ?

yessir, I'm on the wrestling content team. check the bylines for Spey.

I know Louie's called matches for Flo in the past. Not sure what the deal is now but we utilize a lot of freelancers, which will only increase with the Big Ten deal.

I just don't understand what BTN Plus benefits out of this.

Why would BTN want to send $130.00 a month in subscription fees to a competitor in the same space, and likely receive back far less in royalities?

Maybe I just don't understand the deal fully

Try changing Web browsers. If you use an ad blocker, try streaming with it on and off.

I have zero knowledge about the details of the deal, that is not my department, but I'm assuming BTN Plus does not expect to lose more subscriber revenue than they'll get paid by Flo.

BTN Plus and FloSports bundles comes in very different packages with various degrees of price discrimination, which allows for the same content to be delivered through different channels. Some segments of BTN Plus' audience and FloSports' audience do not overlap, and so there is no net subscriber loss for those segments. With respects to subscribers, I believe the deal is expected to be accretive.

For purely illustrative purposes, think of 1000 random sports fan. 100 may subscribe to BTN Plus and 10 may subscribe to Flo. After the deal, BTN may expect to lose 5 subs, but Flo might expect to gain 10 subs, and somewhere between the value of 5 BTN Plus subs and 10 Flo subs is what Flo paid BTN Plus -- but again to repeat, I have absolutely ZERO inside scoop about the particulars of the deal. I'm just guessing as to how the deal would make sense.

And besides the extra change coming their way, BTN Plus and the Big Ten Conference get a new media partner that will know help promote their schools, their sports and their overall brand.

I believe it's what folks in the business community refer to as a win-win.

So after looking a little further into this, My biggest issue with moving to Flo from BTN2Go. Flo only provide a single stream for the $150 annual fee. I have 3 Roku's in my house and 1 cell phone it is physically impossible to be logged into all of them like BTN2GO which allows 5 devices to be use at the same time. They really need to upgrade this as they expand to other streaming devices as options to view.

Flo is way behind on this as most streaming services offer at least 2 as a minimum. Something they need to correct to make it more economical. Example what I I want to watch a wrestling match on one tv and my wife wants to watch a replay of a basketball game in another room. Can't be done with Flo it its current state.

It they add more concurrent streams i would be all in on their service.

I've had BTN plus the past 3 wrestling seasons on a month by month basis. I will sign up for FLO by next weekend on a monthly basis to watch our matches vs Oklahoma and Va, and see if the quality has improved. I hope it does as I watch a lot of other teams matches as well as the bigger HS tourney's and duals.
If satisfied, then I will sign up for the yearly subscription most likely.

Question for you JH,
I've been looking at both the FloWrestling sites and Flosports site quite a bit and I am a bit confused on where does one find the calender of events for College Basketball, specifically Rutgers basketball.
Is an extra fee or premium subscription needed to access all sports on Flo? I am also having a hard time just finding the rates for Flo on a monthly basis and annual basis without actually signing up and then seeing the rates.
I want to watch the Journeyman Duels in Albany this weekend, and was planning on a month trial subscription but was also hoping to catch some RU BB during the month as well.

Thanks

FloHoops.com will carry the B1G basketball games. On that site click on events and search for Rutgers and they should come up. Other sports will have they're own sites, which you should be able to find on flosports.tv. I don't know if we have a master schedule yet but anything thats on btn plus should also be on Flo, so you can use btn.com to search as well.

I think you can still do monthly subscriptions but I'd email support@flosports.tv to get answers to those questions. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing if they've changed anything. I also think you get access to all the sites if you sign up for a yearly subscription but again, I'd double check to make sure.

Honestly my issue with Flo has been quality of broadcast as well. I just have not had good experiences with their feed.

This weekend, Flo had good feed at the Daktronics and Clarion open.
I am hoping that is a sign of good things to come.
This is the first time I have had Flo in a few years.

I do miss RVision (and the announcers), but they only covered home matches

Thanks, I wound up finding the flosports support email last night and sent them the same questions.
I will post their reply when I receive it.

I signed up for FloSports today.
$150 for the year
$30 for a month.
Can access all sports, not just wrestling.

It rolls over , so make note of the date to decide whether you want to roll over.
Also, if not happy, cancel at any time and they rebate the balance on a pro rata basis, so nice protection there.

Watching RU Mens basketball tonight vs CCNY
Will watch both wrestling matches tomorrow on Ipad or laptop while the RU Football game is on the Television.
Will give a 'quality of video' report later tonight.

First problem with Flo- apparently I read the schedule wrong, the RU MBB game tongiht vs CCNY is NOT broadcast. The game on Nov12 vs CC (Central Conn) is broadcast, lol. I could have gotten BTN Plus for $10 a month instead of the 30 a month w Flo, but BTN Plus doesn't have tommorow's Journeyman's Duel w Ru vs Ok and VA, and on Sunday at the East Stroudsburg Tourny. Oh well.

Problem #2- No live chat help support with Flo, only email. Not off to a good start.

Well someone from Flo finally sent me the link to the RU MBB game, after it was over, lol. I guess I need to get more familiar with this very complex site, or sites.

I've just sent Flo contact support a message I would like a free month since I already missed the first event I wanted to see as all these very numberous Flo sites are extremely confusing.

Will keep all apprised.

Abro, if you go to Flowrestling and click on the arrow Powered by flosports and then scroll down and click on flosports it will bring up all their verticals. Or just go to this link http://www.flosports.tv/ and then click on the sport. I have it on the latest apple TV and it is great, all their sports come up.

Great, thanks for the help. But if they don't give me a free month, I'll go back to more user friendly BTN Plus. BTN plus have live chat help. I can't believe Flo with alltheir loot doens't have that.

Plus I don't even know what 'verticals" even means ? lol

So my biggest issue with FLo is that if you didn't watch live, its basically useless. On BTN, I can log in whenever and watch. I tuned in this morning to try to watch the matches from Saturday, and they have none of the Okalhoma matches available, and for Virginia, they are missing DeLuca and 184.

Totally useless.

we're working on getting all the matches from the Journeyman NE Duals up and linked to the results page. when events don't use FloArena - all Journeymen events use Tournaflex software - for the bracketing and dashboards the files often don't auto-uploaded. apologies for the delay.

Abro - vertical just means sport or website. all the wrestling events are on the wrestling vertical, all the basketball events are on FloHoops, etc. I think they are working on getting the Big Ten sports that don't have their own vertical/site on to FloSports.tv but I'm not sure exactly what the plan is.

also just a heads up, but BTN Plus won't have events like Journeymen or the Scuffle, even if Big Ten teams participate in it. I totally get preferring one site to the other, BTN does have some excellent features, but not all FloWrestling Big Ten content will be on BTN Plus, however all BTN Plus Big Ten content will be on Flo. just a heads up in case you go looking for Journeyman duals on BTN's site!

@JH.
THANKS. The quality of the video on Saturday was good. Will be keeping Flo thru end of Dec to see the Scuffle and Beast. In Jan will probably switch to BTN. 30/ month vs 10 or 15 a month.

Also watched RU WBB yesterday as well. It was the BTN feed.
