How about we evaluate Flood and Co., on their job this season.
Backdrop: If Urban Meyer and his staff took over last spring, coached this team through spring and summer, and through our first 7 games...what would our record be? 5-2, maybe even 6-1. No way we beat OSU just too talented. Keep in my mind this is with our players, so no recruiting impact.
Now that I established that framework, why would we be better with that coaching staff? Better scheming, better play calling, better motivation, better S&C, etc? What schemes would Urban run with our players?
I think this explores ideas that can be a framework for what Flood and Company have to do to get better as coaches. Do we have some subpar coaches? Which ones and get rid of them. Are our schemes or game plans not good enough? Are we playing the right guys? All fair questions that should be up for discussion. The only way I can see not needing a discussion is if we think we would be no different in any way with UM and staff leading the team. Otherwise, a good discussion could be centered around how do our coaches get better as coaches independent of recruiting at this point.
Lack of talent is not an option for this evaluation, because it is too late for this season anyway. So what can Flood do better? Why would we be 5-2 or 6-1 with UM or Harbaugh but not Flood? I would like to have a civil discussion about this without polarizing and blasting one another.
