As great as the Indiana win was, it does nothing to erase my doubts about Flood long-term. He's made questionable decisions on and off the field. While his recruits are "nice," they are not difference makers who will get us into the top echelon of the Big Ten. However, I COULD change my mind IF:
1. He turns around some of the top NJ recruits who are looking elsewhere, AND;
2. Achieve a SEVEN win season - not six - AND a bowl win. This would mean wins against Maryland, Army, Nebraska (which are very winnable and all at home), and ONE upset win against Ohio State, Michigan, or Wisconsin. A win against the latter three would be a true signature win, something he does not have during his tenure.
I do believe that if he achieves the second task then we will get a few of the NJ guys who have committed or are looking elsewhere to stay home.
If you think this season is a success with six wins - when one of those wins was against Norfolk State - then, justify to me your satisfaction with mediocrity. I know some folks are going to bring up the secondary decimation as a defense for Flood, but remember that he recruited those guys and supported them even when one (or two) should have been let loose from the program a while ago.
I love Rutgers. I bleed scarlet. My Dad (Class of 67) is a senior citizen and is tired of mediocrity, as am I. I want a Big Ten title. I want a Rose Bowl championship and a national title. I strongly doubt that Flood is going to deliver any of those. However, I'm willing to give him another chance IF he does what I said above.
