Yet when I've mentioned that this years receivers were vastly better than last year's I get arguments like "WRs don't matter when comparing QBs."

5' 9" with short arms vs 6' 4" and long arms - no biggie

Yet they would be nobodies if GW were still here.

Maybe
I know they ran faster and further than last year's crew - and they could make contested catches as well as snag ugly balls.
Good WRs make even rough passers better.
Give Drems and Wash to AK and just the reverse happens (Wash could make some long catches though).

But a 5'9" with short arms in the slot who constantly gets open on short and intermediate routes combined with 2 6'4"s on the outside who can go intermediate and deep is the best of both worlds.

He has good hands and had quickness to be good in slot in expanded sets.
However he cant handle physical DBs or contested balls (which is what many long balls turn into).
He never really went long - many 2023 WRs didn't but Washington was best at it
If a WR cant outrun a DB ( and he couldn't) he better be prepared to scuffle and he wasn't physical at all like that.
He had to be hit on a zone seam/buffer .

He's a six (6) year WR with 699 yds and 4 TDs for career.
People like to pedestal him because he was a small walk-on but he wasn't a great B1G WR.
If he was 6'4" with same stats people would wonder what was wrong with him

Exactly. GW had his shortcomings, no doubt, but the difference in the receiving corp is night and day.
You need both. A great QB needs guys to get open and actually catch the ball. Great receivers need a QB that can actually throw the ball accurately, short, long and quickly.

Our QB needs a clean pocket for just the minimum amount of time.
Thereโ€™s no more we donโ€™t get separation excuses, plus we may have a functional tight end and a new running back whoโ€™s an excellent receiver.

This is about the O Line now

Agreed. You might say the OL took it on the Chin during the bowl game. Major improvement needed there.
