Former Rutgers QB Steve Shimko Wins JC Championship

Can he recruit? Does he have a Twitter? If the answer is yes to both, hire him immediately.

Hope is still is connected with the Alma Mater. If not, perhaps Ash can help re-build that bridge.

Let's hope Coach Ash and assistant Kill are on the phone with Shimko looking for JUCO players to fill holes on the Rutgers roster. Rutgers needs them more than Shimko's old boss now at Miami.

This is impressive stuff. Also shows how complex the rise in coaching ranks can be. From NJ to Georgia to Kansas by the time he is 26/27. I'm sure this is just the beginning too.

Kill is originally from Kansas, I would think he has connections with all of the Juco's out there. We still have our issues getting Juco's eligible.

Other programs routinely use JUCOs to bolster their rosters. If it is an issue at Rutgers, it needs to be resolved if we want to compete. Hasn't Rutgers made it easier for NJ community college grads to transfer in? Are local community colleges vastly different than distant JUCO schools?

Guys just have to take the right classes.

Hahahaha, look at his bio. Someone's been left out...
SHIMKO BEGAN HIS COACHING CAREER AT HIS ALMA MATER, RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE WAS HIRED AS A PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COACH TO ASSIST IN FILM BREAKDOWN AND QUARTERBACK DEVELOPMENT. SHIMKO WORKED UNDER GREG SCHIANO (OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR), FRANK CIGNETTI (NEW YORK GIANT’S QUARTERBACK COACH), RON PRINCE (DETROIT LION’S OFFENSIVE LINE COACH), AND DAVE BROCK (UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE HEAD COACH).

BEFORE SHIMKO’S COACHING CAREER BEGAN, HE PLAYED QUARTERBACK AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY AND PARTICIPATED IN THE PAPA JOHN’S BOWL (2008) AND ST. PETERSBURG BOWL (2009) WHERE RUTGERS CAME OUT VICTORIOUS IN BOTH.

None offer football in NJ which is a shame but solid question.

In a word, no. But the agreement between the NJ community colleges and the public 4 year schools in in place. You take the correct track of courses and GRADUATE the community college, all of your credits are accepted at the 4 year NJ public.

The problem with traditional JUCOs is those kids take 7 gym classes, a pottery class, math for 4th graders, and remedial reading.

We can't get them in here. It's been a known fact since the Flood (the big Flood, not the toolbag coach).

Same answer on JUCO's for the last 30 years. You still have to take the right classes and get the right grades to be able to transfer into Rutgers from a junior colege. A D-minus in recreational studies won't get you in.
These same complaints about it being a problem have literally been spoken about for decades and the university hasn't bent for the football players.

There has to be some mythology in-place here. This article cites significant JUCOs added to the rosters of Minnesota, Sandusky State, Michigan State, Indiana, and Purdue. Playing with one hand tied behind our back will propagate the notion that Rutgers does not compete ... it participates. And the beatings will continue ad infinitum.
