Fran McCafrey Suspended for Saturday

I'd expect that whoever coaches in his place won't be giving the refs much of an earful.

Still gonna be a tough one to win but every bit helps.

A downside is Connor McCaffrey might see fewer minutes. We want him on the court as much as possible IMO.

True. His brother will probably be different story since he’s supposed to be the real deal...but that’s next year’s problem.

He threw the full court pass that resulted in Iowa defeating Rutgers.

thought it might be favorable for us if Mac was not suspended - as the refs would take it out on him for their brethren.
They get their game film reviewed by the league regularly, and if it's good get to work the tourney. So I doubt they'd purposely target Iowa to get back at Fran anyway.

If anything, they may now be overly judicious. B1G probably sends out their best crew for this game.

Can he appeal this and coach? I’m guessing they know he’s wrong and just want to get this over with before the conference tournament.

I don't really see how this helps us. If the game was here instead of Iowa City then maybe. I would expect the team to rally behind the acting HC and try to win one for FM. The fans will also be a little more rabid given the unique circumstances.

Fans, at least message board guys and older fans, seem like they're pissed at Fran to begin with because of attitude to announcer. Not sure about the fandom rallying. The team seems very behind him from what I've seen. Still a distraction.

Question will be the officiating, to me. Fran rides the refs really, really hard.... and with less pressure from him (and as a reaction to Fran's actions/accusation), it's possible we get a slightly better whistle.

The crowd will be riled up, the team will be pumped - and I'm sure that a few of our guys are going to talk a ton of trash about it, too.

I wonder which refs do the game.

Any chance it is someone from the crew from Iowa’s last game?

Even if not, are the refs human enough to give us the benefit of the doubt in a few calls?
