Agudosi continues to perform. He should not have to wait until Caroo gets hurt to get into the game. I hope McDaniels will sub him in for Patton/Grant or have some 4 WR sets to get Agudosi some much deserved reps even if Caroo is healthy next week.

I couldn't agree more.

I didn't understand this situation as indicated in the Norries presser after MSU either. He was acting like it was some great injustice that Agudosi wouldn't play now that Caroo was back. All I keep thinking is that they are wide outs. There is no reason you can't get Agudosi 1-3 targets in a game, and if he does something with them, then you get him some more. That is how it should be with all receivers.

They need to get this kid in there. He produces when given the chance.

I believe the issue against MSU was that, with Carroo suspended, CA was running "the Carroo routes" on plays. With the quick reinstatement, CA was not practiced in other plays/routes, so he sat while Carroo kicked butt.

Now two weeks later, they need to figure out a way to get both of these guys on the field in patterns on the same play.

Agree. With two threats, it benefits both receivers. I think the fact that Carroo has done so well even when they try to stop him speaks to just how good Leonte is. Give them someone else they really have to worry about at the same time, both guys get a bit easier job to do.

Offense has evolved greatly in the past decade. Playing WR is not like HS where you just run the route that's called in the huddle.

With a complex, multi-formation, multi-personnel package, pro-style offense like ours, I would imagine there are tons of route conversions, sight adjustments, and quick audibles per play that you have to learn in order to simply run the right route. It's much easier to teach/install an offense when each player only plays one position.

If a particular playcall requires a conversion to a 'hot route' (usually a quick hitch, slant, quick out, or drag) as part of blitz protection and the WR fails to convert the route, you'll end up with just a sack if you're lucky.

Here's an excellent article that talks about the benefits of teaching WRs ONE position first: LINK

You'll see Gronk, Edelman, and Deion Lewis lined up all over the place because in the NFL you don't have the practice restrictions that you do in college.

Caroo and Agudosi on the field at the same time is a major problem for OSU secondary. Let's see it happen.

I understand what you are all saying; that learning a new WR position is not easy. But this is not an issue that cropped up this week. Agudosi has been playing well since the spring, they've had 6 months to figure out how to get him more snaps. I'm not saying he should supplant Grant or Patton, I'm fine with them starting. But they NEED to get Agudosi on the field more. He can stand with the WR coach or a GA on the sideline. When it's 3rd and long give him 1 route to run. Go in run the play, come out for 1st and 10.

3rd and long, Agudosi should be in. Red zone, Agudosi should be in. He is a fourth year redshirt junior he should be able to run a decent route tree by now. Get him in the game.

I'm saying he's been practicing at the X receiver position. There is only one X spot on a particular play. If you want him to be on the field at the same time as Carroo, he needs to be crosstrained. Arguably, your inside/slot receivers tend to have the most conversions to learn. I mean you could "fix" his routes (no conversion), but the problem you will run into is the newish QB has been learning all these pass-concepts with the conversions built-in. You now risk the QB hesitating which is never a good thing.

I could be completely wrong too. Maybe our offense has zero conversions (Harbaugh did away with route conversions when he became the Niner coach and revived Alex Smith's career). So there's that too, lol. In the end, I'm just a guy in the stands like most of us.

Agudosi has one year left?

We've played converted corners after a week of playing defense. Football isn't as complicated as some make it out to be.

Ed: Best analogy I've ever read came from this post:
"I think it's a lot like in baseball, you know, the difference between a second baseman and a third baseman," said Millen, when asked to describe the differences between X and Z. "You know, they're both infielders, but their job duties are much different, and so it goes with wide receiver."

A "major" problem? Com'on man can we have just a tad bit of perspective here? OSU has the #6 Pass Efficiency D in the nation. Agudosi had 3 nice catches against the 108th PED in the nation.

Still not buying it. They've had weeks to prepare. A read is a read. A pattern is a pattern. To think you can't do it in a season is again, over thinking it. I understand the reads they have to make and the patterns they must adjust. Again, we've had guys flip over to corner in a week. Do you really think that it is easier to change to corner from receiver than to flip between an X and a Y?

A top national 3-5 WR in Caroo and a 6'6" target playing with a ton of confidence. Not to count a speedster like Grant in the slot. I'll take those matchups. Eli Apple against either. Where do I sign?

Ed: if I convert a corner to a short zone defender and give him help over the top, IMO that's not that risky as trotting out a corner at WR and expecting him to run the right route, with the right timing and conversions. The downside at CB is a short gain. Downside at WR is an INT.
