“Fire him? That’s ridiculous,” Friedgen said in a phone call with The Record. “They’re not going to get a more honest guy than Kyle, no matter who they hire. These are 18- to 22-year-old kids. It’s like raising your sons. Sometimes they don’t do the right thing. Kyle is an optimistic guy, I’ve never seen a guy more optimistic than him. He wants what’s best for the kids.

“I believe in this guy as a person, I believe in him as a coach, I don’t know what more you could ask for. If I had a son, I’d want him to play for Kyle Flood because of his integrity.

“If I didn’t believe in him as a person, do you think I’d be talking to you? This is a raw deal. He has a good career ahead of him and I’d hate to see this hurt that career.”
