We were known for great defense under Schiano. Here is what happened to the defense under Flood:

Total Defense Rank
Schiano
2009: 18
2010: 65
2011: 14

Flood
2012: 10
2013: 73 (AAC)
2014: 98
2015: 111

You can't send a defense into a tail spin any harder even if you're trying. THAT is how bad Flood was and how much he gutted the team. 111th is the kind of ranking Terry Shea teams had.

Get a freaking clue about how much the current staff has (does not have) to work with.

I don't thing we've ever agreed more than we do on this topic lol! Funny thing is some here STILL don't want to believe it!

You can't blame Flood for taking a top ten defense and making it a 110 defense!

It's Ash's fault! Time to drop football we should have never joined the Big Ten!

- every Troll here

Anyway, it is sad that people refuse to believe how much beloved program was buried. It will take years to dig out of this mess.

The only thing I blame Flood on was picking CL as the starter over Rettig. The current staff is following that mistake.

no...but for now, and the next couple of years, what he did this program is 100% pertinent to the current state of it...so it's going to come up, a lot, bottom line.

Flood really screwed the program. We have zero depth and below average B1G talent at too many positions. Someone posted a listing of our highest rated players and thought this was enough talent to make us competitive, not realizing we needed at least twice the amount of good players to have a good team.

I hate people ripping Ash right now. He seems to be doing a really good job and has a game plan on how to run this program and turn it into a winner. If he is able to keep getting good recruits to believe we'll be fine.

Most of us saw this coming after he picked Laviano. This is like a repeat of last year's O.

I admire y'all fighting the good fight but it's hopeless. They have the stats and the schedule, if Vince Lombardi came back from the dead and posted this message to them, they would not believe.

Flood started with logan Ryan, Greene, Cooper and Harmon on defense. Tim Wright and Burton on offense. Add in Vallone and then the lousy recruiting of Kyle Flood.

Haha wait until next year when all of Schianos 5th year seniors leave. This team would win against the 2017 team by double digits.

I hate Flood as much as anyone, probably more so, but I think most here give Rutgers too much of a pass for not cutting bait on him the countless times they should have. Although I disagree with it, I can understand keeping him around to hold on to the recruiting class, but it was pretty clear early on that he was not going to get it done and Rutgers really needed to move on from him if they had interest in putting out a high level product on the field. I direct most of my anger at flood for the off the field nonsense but everything that happenned after year 1 of Flood I mostly blame on Rutgers. I believe Flood was trying but was severely unqualified and overmatched, whereas Rutgers wasn't even trying.

This is so patently and needlessly dickish.

When are yu guys going to cut the crap, Flood tookover a
team that a 10 head coach lost to an 0 and 11 team.
Sugar coat that , will you. And the last 5 years that
particular coach, had the easiest schedule in football.
Stop trying to re-invent history.

Bullshit. For 2.5 years myself and others - BRG included IIRC - were trying to tell this board that Flood was slowly, piece-by-piece, DESTROYING this program. Many here simply refused to believe it, with some here attacking myself and others personally, to the point of me being no longer able to not respond peacefully, then those same complaining about me whined to John and got me banned, all for doing nothing other than speaking the truth. Speaking realistically. Well....

...Now what he did is finally being recognized, by most, but others instead are attempting to blame what they don't like on the field now on Ash and his staff. So - IMHO - until everyone finally gets the fact that this is Flood's fault and why, too bad, threads and posts as such will continue.

BTW - it's gonna be a couple of years so you may as well get used to it. Peace. [cheers]

I don't think most are defending Flood. It's just time to move on. Constant wallowing in the mess--irrespective of apportioning blame--doesn't help the program. Time to move forward.
