None of which gives you or
@RUcrazee the right to spew venom at each other because you have differing opinions. There are a few on here who are looking at things through Scarlet Colored glasses; there are others who don't seem to see the whole picture through over focusing on one thing or another.
I believe it was you who correctly pointed out (in my opinion, as well) that Rutgers does not have have a great track record in fan relations. Rutgers did a ghastly job (again, in my opinion) of handling this whole thing. Just the optics of giving a very nice contract and immediately allowing CVS to go on leave is terrible. Please note, I'm not criticizing the contract or the leave, just the optics.
I am perfectly OK if Vivian takes the year off and Tim gets an "audition". But this was probably known long before that info was released to the public. I do resent what I think was your claim that WBB has been unsuccessful since 2010. The team has indeed struggled relative to their past history for the past 10 years, but, with the exception of a couple of years, have generally been successful. I consider making the NCAA's to qualify for successful, if sometimes disappointing, seasons.
I honestly think that, for what Rutgers "is" and not what fans want it "to be", it is unlikely that a coaching change would have been made in that time, although there may have been a "hot seat" perception that wasn't there because it was Vivian. If this team had the history of a Tennessee, for example, that would be different. Look at how long JPM was coach at Duke with "modest" results. And Duke's history under GG was unquestionably on a par with Rutgers in the comparable era.
In the end, it is complicated. Vivian's not coaching is, of course, a negative for the program. That isn't a judgement of whether it is right or wrong. We need to stop going all in on there being only one right opinion because, quite frankly, it is almost always complicated.
