I thought the article was unfocused and somewhat poorly written. It seemed that the author was trying for a human-interest story where the central theme was about having perspective. Which I would have applauded, had he done a better job of it.

As written, the reason people are likely to bash that article with unrelated crap is because the author included too much unrelated crap in it.
