Geno's video on Body Language

It is fundamental to Geno's success that his teams play, to put it simply, as a team. The players are recruited based at least partly on whether he thinks they will be the kind of player he wants them to be (attitude wise).

It is only one of the many things that lead to his success.

My sometime objection to some UConn fans is that:

- there are fans who think that Geno is the only one to care about these things, which is absolutely not true.
- they sometimes pre-judge non-UConn players, making an assumption that they wouldn't be the right type for UConn. Interestingly, on their message board, they have come around to really liking Kelsey Plum - but the initial reactions of some fans was that she couldn't possibly be a team player and score that much. Eventually, they realized that she was.

The thing I don't get with Geno is how exciting could it be to beat teams like Tulsa 85-30. To me I would have wanted to get a job in Big Ten so games at least would be a challenge. Like I few years ago when he was younger. Makes no sense to me or go back to Virginia where he started I believe.

I've been wondering, with what must be a very high salary for Geno along with a $3 million+ salary for their men's bball coach, how UConn can continue to afford to pay those salaries much longer on an AAC-payout level budget. Even with good attendance, though below capacity, UConn can't possibly be reaping enough $$$ at the gate to afford that and now they are saddled with a far smaller TV payout per year in the AAC. And their football gate $$$ are way down from the BE years.

I'm sure Geno is very happy where he is but if the money isn't going to be there to continue to pay him, will he look to move? And are there any other universities who value women's basketball enough to pay him what he commands now?

It isn't exciting. Or useful. That's why he scheduled almost all blue chip teams in the OOC. By far - and I mean far - the toughest out-of-conference slate. His OOC was always tougher than folks gave him credit for, but when UConn was in a better conference (BE) he didn't schedule as high as he does now.

It isn't about regular season success - or even "the streak" - it is all about championships. That is the singular mindset, and another driver of UConn's success. As you presumably know, they don't cut any nets down except National Championships. Regional Championships are just a stop on the road to that.

He is taken care of far enough ahead (he just got a new deal) that, given his age, may very well take him to retirement (or close). And at a very, very high salary.

As to your other points, it is correct. That is UConn's dilemma. Like RU, their athletics are not flush, although they have been successful on a national level in some niche sports for quite a while, as well as the basketballs.

Serious question.... Do you really think it would be any different in the Big 10? Who, besides Maryland, would really give them a game?

100% correct Ewecon. He has built a machine. Maybe, only the Western Conference on the NBA would slow him down. They really have no peers in college basketball.

If he took another job like Virginia, did not get my point. Not coaching UCONN in Big Ten. Like several coaches in men's game who have taken several different teams to the dance. Just so you understand if he went to Virginia and then had to play ND and Duke.

Ah!!! Sorry, I misunderstood!

Sorry I did it early in morning, probably worded it wrong. UCONN would beat up teams in Big Ten. Rick Pitino took three teams to Final Four.
