He’s just not that solid or consistent all. Turnover machine. When his shot is off.... his whole game is off.

it’s a shame, he’s not maturing into “the guy” ala Douby, Billet, etc

Cannot argue ones bit with you tonight as he had as bad a game as he has had in 3 years.

Agree he just loses the ball dribbling or has it stolen at least 2-3 times again and his shot is so inconsistent

At least tonight you're right. He was horrible tonight. His TO's were just unbelievable for a junior, because his decision making was so bad. And when you can't hit the 3 stop shooting it! Move inside the arc and take a 17 foot shot that you're capable of making more consistently. Just terrible tonight.

Best served as a second option. Not athletic enough to get to the cup at will or lethal enough from 3 to make up for his deficiencies

Problem with Geo is that his bad games always turn into awful games. He either goes like 7-10 or 3-11 with a ton of turnovers.

Geo was bad and as he goes so goes the team. Our guard play was horrendous other than Mathis who is really a wing

Who are the options? Clearly Young is not the answer. Mulcahy doesn’t look ready

He’s missed on nearly all his priority PG targets. Was surprised he was not recruiting guards this class which I think means he’s now reversing and ok with Geo at point a lot more than he originally stated he intended to do.

Geo is a junior now and no excuse, yes he can step it up against weak sisters but tonight he was dreadful after a solid start. He is what he is, he is going to give us some solid performances but we are not going to get that performance he teased in the Big 10 tourney 2 years ago

yeah I tracked his game results vs. team results last year and got blasted by the "experts" on all this stuff as to why not , blah blah blah.its no different so far this year.

Tonight big road game vs. ACC and he stands outside taking 11 shots, 8 from 3 going 2 for 8 after a nice early drive and slam....1 freaking foul shot. and 5 turnovers.

Either he is New Hampshire weak or Pike is just a coaching zombie who can't adjust his game.

This is a team coming in Top 50 in FG % at like 48% but 200 + from three under 20%...So we take 23 from 3 tonight making 4! 17%!

Miles goes 7-8 and Yaboah 3-6. Who on the bench is watching the game or looking at the stats?

Geo had a bad game. It happens. I'll take Geo on my team any day. Think he just needs a solid compliment with him. Geo is more of a #2 scoring option as opposed to the sure #1 alpha such as a Douby.

Very strange that Pike says for years he wishes he could play him off the ball and then first year with options for ball handlers he doesn’t move him off the ball that much.

the problem is the guys we expected to handle the ball (young, mulchay) and play point cannot reliably do it right now.

He’s not even sniffing Doubys jock at this point! Douby and Billet could handle AND shoot. They weren’t TO machines. Geo is streaky shooter, not money, like he needs to be by now, is my point. Mike Rosario and Ricky Shields are also great examples of consistency.

While I did not see the prior two games I thought we might be getting close to turning over the PG reigns to Mulcahy. Based on last night he is not ready for that thus what really are the other options? Young is proving what was said when he arrived: He is not a point guard.

Appears the 3 pt line has effected him also. 35% to 27%. I wonder how that compares to % decrease across all of ncaa.

Wow, I questioned Geo's play a few weeks ago on this board and was told to "stfu" and generally trashed by everybody.

It’s puzzling, really, he obviously has skill set, but I think it’s his attitude, and confidence at times. Need him to get it together to have a shot at success.

The issue with geo is:

1. He’s a 2 guard
2. He likes to shoot off the dribble
3. He’s not athletic enough to get to the rim in conference
4. He’s not a good catch a shoot guy

So his game just does not mesh very well at this level

Agree. Before the Pitt game, Geo had 14 turnovers in 7 games - - 2 per game. That's hardly a turnover machine. Even with his bad game, he still leads the team by far with 34 assists. He also, in the past games this year, has been able to drive to the hole on many occasions, so the argument that he can't doesn't wash. I just wish he would take his 16-17 foot step back jumper more often and don't rely so much on 3's. He's shooting .667 from 2 and only .277 from 3, way below last year's 3-point % of .341. He's our best free throw shooter, but doesn't go to the line enough when more than half his sots are 3;s.

Geo is good. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a sidekick. I always wondered why Steve never recruited a player just like him.

I guess Ron was supposed to be something like that but it isn't working out like that so far.

You say in Your Point #4 that he is not a catch and shoot guy but how would you know? I really would like to see him coming off curls like Reggie Miller used to . Geo is still playing the point a lot but when he slides to the two he disappears. If he can off a staggered screen or a double screen at the top of the key off a real set play , I venture to guess he would become the two guard we have been waiting for and his confidence would sore. Right now he has to do everything on his own, breaking down his man, and a lot of the time in late shot clock.
Another poster has mentioned it and I think it is now true , but his most efficient range is from 2 point range. Michael JORDAN made his career nailing that mid range jumper all day. I get it the game has changed , the analytics of the 3, but if Geo made 7-9 midrange shots a game and got fouled and went to the line a few times , he would average 20 points a night . He has the height to shoot over the defending guard . I wish we saw it more.

boy......this board has really gone off the rails after this loss....gee, I get it ,a young pitt team beat us at their place, and we stunk.....so now, mulcahy
is not ready, ...geo all; hon. mention big ten isn't very good, and yet it would not shock me if we beat mich st......how bout last year when we lost to iowa at home, with that miracle shot...who would have thought ,we would blow them off their home floor.not I, that's for sure....it's one game being put under an electron microscope.......I agree with the geo taking the mid range jumpers, and think the grad tran. needs more minutes
he brings a leadership role for this young team to follow.plus he can shoot...pike needs to start playing a steady starting five....myles, yeboah, rhj, geo, and montez....i'm certain he's done his evaluation, and will adjust accordingly. .

tbf Mulcahy not being ready seems like legitimate criticism and not really bashing at all; there's no reason to expect a true freshman to be ready but he clearly was not for his first road game against power competition.

That doesn't mean he isn't good and won't be ready soon.

Those are high, and very different, standards.
Seriously, Douby was a 1st round pick...nobody ever put that level of expectation on Geo, that’s nuts. Douby’s number should be in the rafters.

Also I said it last year but Baker is a good player. He would look much better if he wasn't forced to take a greater role than he is meant for.

You guys gotta be kidding me. He had a really bad game, it happens. Did you forget his effort in the tournament 2 years ago as a freshman? The work he put in last year?

The issue with Geo is, like others said, he is a 2 guard. To get Geo to shine, you need someone on the team with explosive athleticism who is always a threat to get to the rim and will be double teamed (aka corey sanders). When we had corey geo could play his game and it showed.

Unfortunately no one can get to the rim with authority without playing completely out of control. Mathis sort of could last year but has not been a force yet this year. So now Geo is forced to be Corey, who he clearly isn’t, which leads to him playing out of his element and turning the ball over.
