Comes by it honestly, his mother captained the MIT basketball team.

7 three pointers in a game puts him in a 7-way tie for 8th all time at Rutgers, along with three games from Jerome Coleman, two from Donnell Lumpkin, and one from Todd Billett.

Last time an RU player hit at least 7 was when Douby hit 8 in March of 2006... and the only players to ever hit 7 or more in a game before today were Douby, Coleman, Lumpkin, and Billett.

Wow, he is much better than his recruitment suggested. I love the way he plays as he's very smooth. I was wondering how dominate in a game he would be when his shot started falling. I guess we found out tonight.

The obligatory, " He speaks so well comment"....lol

Chop, understand why you would be sensitive about any comment seeming to be surprised that a black kid can speak well. After all, Clueless Joe Biden said something surprisingly tone deaf about Barack Obama back in 2008. But in this context, people were impressed by a freshman completely at ease during an interview, and speaking as though he had a few years of college ball and countless interviews under his belt. Noted a couple of games ago when an interviewer talked to Geo just after the game that he was completely comfortable and had some good comments. Some guys just have that presence, some don't. Bill Walton, who has become an entertaining color guy, voluble and opinionated with an over the top patter was tongue tied when interviewed in college. Dr J was a good interview, as, of course, was Clyde Frazier, then my favorite player, now my favorite NBA color guy. It varies.

only those who actually think racially would feel the need for some of these posts-- the interviewers commented that he sounded like a senior rather than a freshmen yet some dopes on here make it a racial thing

stick a microphone in front of my face while on tv, and I would probably sound
like a stuttering baboon ..... we can chalk up SOME of the "he speaks so well"
as to having composure during an interview.....

That's the main takeaway from Geo....he had 29 points as a true freshmen !!!!
that too but yes during his interview I was impressed. He is very well spoken and composed. Listen I have heard thousands of kids talk on these post games...some of the more impressive ones as freshmen in terms of poise in doing an interview are Billet, JR Inman and I would be put Baker up there. Its a big compliment, he has a great head on his shoulders, stop making it about something else,

Yea, but you never see "he speaks so well" comments about white people. I'm going to go out of my way to say that about a white person in casual conversation today.

actually in general. most male athletes in hoops and football seem to fit the dumb airhead jock role....doesnt matter what color they are. Whether thats fair or maybe its just youth, most do not come across well...so when someone does, you take notice...regardless of color.

You do with college athletes. 90% of them sound like immature idiots (and to a lesser extent, this is true of the student population at large). People are complimentary just about any time a college athlete, especially a young one, gives a good interview for their team. The entire basis for the Chris Rock joke is that, "Colin Powell is highly educated." That's what makes it a backhanded compliment. An 18 year old college freshman, not so much.

This thread is embarrassing. People taking a kind word, and trying to make it out to be racist.

Geo is outstanding. Congrats to Pikiell and our staff for finding him and getting him to come to RU. At the time we had many fans saying he was not that good and that he would get very few minutes. How wrong those people were.

I tried it. It came off kind of weird to the person I was speaking to. I was telling her about my law Associate whom I referred to as very intelligent and speaks very articulately. She was kind of like huh mmmokay

I would have loved to see that!! Secretly video tape yourself doing that all day. You would be a youtube star. :grimace:

Geo sounds different in interviews than your average hoops player. In a very good way, so good for him. Seems like a smart kid. Guessing his Mom going to MIT shouldn't make that a surprise.

People just assume that about white people. Even when it's not true.
