I'm not sure what the criteria for winning are but I have have shop girls on Facebook that beat Miss P. on looks. Of course when Perez Hilton is a judge things are bound to be a little skewed. I've noticed that from 5 years of dealing with service people from a certain tech service. I almost like having problems so I can make calls to Philippines lol. The young people from Philippines in my art forums are also unusually decent and bright (same for kids from Sinagapore).

To see who people were talking about I went to the Miss Universe site. It wasn't just Miss Colombia who looked like Vergara. There were a dozen or more whose publicity pic resembled her and it wasn't just those from South America.

Miss Colombia is probably going to make out better than Miss Philippines. She's become the kind of shiny victim the culture loves. I bet all the talk shows would rather have Miss C than Miss P.

In art history there is a long tradition of painting lamentation scenes of Mary crying/mourning a dead Jesus after coming down from the cross. That's called a "threnos motiff" ("a lyrical lament over a victim of the catastrophe in a tragedy"). That sort of scene was all over the stage in Vegas as the other girls tried to console Miss C.
