So my two friends and I (mid 30s guys) are taking a trip to the Michigan game, and none of us have ever been there before. I searched a few of the other Michigan threads (where will we sit, parking, etc) but didn't see any suggestions. Soo.....

What recommendations do people have of where to stay, either specifically or a general area for the Friday night (maybe Saturday?) before the game? We'd like access to food/bar areas that either would be a short taxi ride or walk away. Thanks in advance!

Never been either but I went looking for hotels right after the date was scheduled and it seemed everything close to downtown, which seem to be the place to be, was booked. I ended up on the highway just outside town. Specifically the TownePlace Suites Ann Arbor South

we booked at the Marriott near the airport. $109/night and a 15 minute uber ride to the stadium

Look up the Brown Jug, cool place to have pizza and beer, there are places on State St. There are two deli sandwich places - Zingerman's, and Amer's, menu board is huge. Amer's is on St. Street in the center of town. Corrected to "Zingerman's, it has been 19 years since grad school.....Brown Jug is cool).

The Hilton Garden, Kensington Court and Holliday Inn are all by the Briarwood Mall and on the game bus line (leaves from the Kensington), with easy access to the highway. It's only a couple miles from the stadium and campus.

You can taxi into downtown Ann Arbor (right next to the campus) for food and drink. I'm not familiar with places to stay closer to campus.

Enjoy, and Go Blue!

The hotels right on campus and downtown are really expensive and probably sold out. Outside of the downtown/main campus area, there are two clusters of hotels in Ann Arbor. One near the Briarwood Mall, and the other near North Campus, which is not close to the main campus. Both areas will have buses to the stadium and back on game day. Most of these hotels cater to corporate-types - nothing special, but generally clean. The hotels right in and right around Ann Arbor will have pretty high prices but usually only require a one night stay.

The airport is about 20 minutes (no traffic). I've stayed at the Westin - it is nice, quiet and attached to the terminal and generally cheap on weekends. The Novi/Livonia area has a lot of hotels that cater to corporate types. That's about 30 minutes away with no traffic. These will be much more reasonable.

Nothing really special about the Brown Jug, other than it's been there forever. "Zingerman's" is a very good deli. It's expensive and you're going to wait in line, especially on game day. It's very good and is always on foodie lists; not huge portions, but great quality. A lot of people will wait in line, but that's not for everyone. Maize n Blue deli is sort of the opposite of Zingerman's. They give you huge sandwiches and you generally do not have to wait in line so if you value quantity of quality this is probably your place. Amer's is just another coffee/sandwich place, nothing special.

One other thing - anything with "Coney Island" in the name is the Michigan equivalent of a diner.

I echo most of this post. Ann Arbor South (right near exit 177 on I-94) is a pretty optimal place to stay. If you don't mind a little walk, it is about a 30-40 minute walk to the stadium. You are also about a mile (or less) from the edge of South Campus.

If you like to walk/run, the arb is a good place to visit.

If you are looking for a good college type bar to catch other college football games in the afternoon / evening Scorekeepers or Good Time Charleys are pretty good places to do that.

That's good to know thanks!

Planning on booking our trip this week. Going to stay in Detroit and rent a car for Saturday.

Anyone know if there will there be any Rutgers tailgates? Does the touchdown club set up away events?

@MrsScrew -- did you get tix through RU or Stubhub?

As mentioned above, look at the hotels on the south side of town, near I-94.

The downtown ones are likely booked.

I am staying at the Hampton Inn - Ann Arbor South. They way my friends are procrastinating booking their flights, I may have an extra room for Friday and Saturday nights. I may even have extra 1-2 tickets in the RU section.

Does anyone know what the RU section #s are at their stadium?

I'll be heading to the game also with a buddy.

neither. my neighbor is a relative of the guy who the stadium club seats are named after. she is getting me my tix. I'm really hoping I will be waving to all of you from the President's box. :raised_hands:

Don't stay in Ohio. You'll wind up accidentally bangin' a fat chick and then there will be shame.
