Some of you guys haven't been the biggest fans of this guy but what a job he has done.
Lets look at his recent track history.
The biggest thing to me is he swallowed his pride and hired a Donny P. Wasn't worried about anything but getting the team better. That has started to show its stripes in recruiting.
He always seems to have his guys ready to go. I for one thought this weekend would be a let down after last weekend success. I felt Oregon St matched up well with us and the travel would all add up to a loss.
LOVE BEING WRONG! Those guys wrestled there balls off! Not just settling for a Dec but getting the extra turn or takedown for the Major. The end of the Gravina match could have been disastrous but he didn't quit after giving up 1 and then 2 with 5 sec left. He sucked it up and got 2 of his own at the buzzer. I understand its the guys on the mat but this coach has been preaching about this team for years and it really starting to show. We are a bad call away from being undefeated and Oklahoma just beat up Michigan. I truly believe we will be right in the middle of the B1G this year and I think we should start giving credit to Goody and his staff. I know looong way to go but what a start!

Good write up OP ! In December RU gets Iowa away and Nebraska at home , while Iowa won't be close, I think Nebraska will be fairly close and if RU gets 1 or 2 surprises , an upset is very doable !

Next up....Cornell and George Mason this coming weekend !! Grapple at the Garden. Take the train to Penn St NY and just walk upstairs !

Agree with giving Goodale some accolades but do you think it was a case of him swallowing his pride or just right place right time after Coop left and Pritz entertained coming back to NJ? I assume he is our highest paid assistant but did we set a new standard for what we are willing to pay an assistant when we brought him in? That would mean JH deserves some credit for approving the incremental spend based on the vision that the program could flourish.

Why do you say "Goodale swallowed his pride in hiring Pritz?" His still the HC, and Pritz works for him. I'm just curious.

In general i like Passe 24's writeup, with the exception of the comment regarding Coach Goodale "swallowing his pride to hire Donny P." but then you got it right with "Wasn't worried about anything but getting the team better." We needed better recruiting and to replace a 4 time AA in Molinaro. Coach had his sights set on Donny from the beginning. There was no coercion or ultimatums from alums, donors or staff. The reality was that we didn't have the budget for a Donny P behind Coach Goodale before just a couple years ago. We (donor alums) guaranteed the funds would be there and we had great backing from RU Athletics (thank you Julie and Sarah!). The confidence in having added resources is a direct result of raising money from SKWC Pin Pool, the Golf Outing and successful summer camps. Then last year, to make the funding more permanent the SKWC & RU Athletics raised a lot of money earmarked specifically for augmenting staff salaries over the next five years until Big Ten money starts. so no pride swallowing. Just a wise decision to hire a very capable #2 in Donny. And credit staffers John Leonardis and Bill Ashnault to welcome Donny so well.

Josh is one of us 8-10 guys on the SKWC committee from the beginning and we have put together a terrific game plan to help raise the funds necessary for the program to succeed and to raise the awareness to fans on what the RU wrestling program is and can do. That is the reason for the rise in attendance and interest in the program. We are dedicated to do whatever is necessary to help the kids and the coaches to get better in wrestling and in life after wrestling. It is the best group of minds with which I have ever been associated.

I just mean it wasn't an ego thing where he would do anything for the guys and the School. Share the spotlight if you will.
didn't mean anything negative

From what I know of Passe24 here on this forum and twitter he is a BIG fan/supporter of Coach Goodale, I didn't think he meant anything negative with his post.

Thanks Dan. I certainly didn't mean any negativity. The post was truly a complement. Just poorly worded.

I get what youre saying Passe.. There are definitely some coaches that wouldn't want a Donnie on their staff just out of ego...Donnie may have one of the most impressive resumes for someone who has never been a HC...To get this guy to make a lateral move from one of the most well established programs has to be one of the biggest recruiting coups in wrestling i've seen!! kudos to Goodale, the administration, and guys like Josh and Bill for all coming together to make this happen!! Hopefully we can keep him here for a couple more years before he takes over his own program!!

You guys do a tremendous job for our wrestling program! Thank you!

all you have to do is briefly look at Rutgers wrestling fact book (link here) to see just how far the program has come since Goodale took over. to summarize:

1967-87: 9 NQs, 1 2X AA
1988-2000: 8 NQs, 0 AA
2001-08: 14 NQs, 1 1X AA
2009-15: 39 NQs, 2 1X AA (both AA's still active)

Facts pretty much tell the story. Was surprised that Winston didn't obtain AA status when he was here. I didn't follow wrestling closely until a few years ago. Did injuries slow him down?
