Is he playing football and wrestling? If so I bet Kenny Parker's S&C will turn him into a monster heavyweight. Wonder if Gross wrestles Hemida vs Maryland at the Yankee Stadium match or we have to go to the bullpen. After Thanksgiving my guess is Gross goes back to wrestling full time.

Good to know. Maybe Goodale grabs a JUCO Heavy, lets him wrestle in November than Redshirts him when Gross returns.
Definitely need to add a heavy at this point. If the plan really is to red-shirt Correnti next season and have him take over at heavy the following season, we clearly need another heavy next season. I am sure the staff is all over this, but I am curious to see what happens.

Heavy is dangerously thin if Gross is out in November and Correnti Redshirts. I don't think Ralph is good enough sad to say. Need to get a grad transfer/JUCO here. Not pursuing Chakonis was a severe mistake.

Im willing to bet Goodale gets a JUCO Heavy for 2017-18...even just for insurance. We can't go out there with one healthy Heavyweight in the first month of the season.

One month? Do you doubt our football team?!? We'll be playing into January! Haha.
LOL, but I think this has to be factored into the equation no matter how remote the possibility. If our football team improves and makes a bowl game, that means Gross will be playing football until mid-December. By the time he is back in wrestling shape, it could be January. I know that may be unlikely, but I don't think it is a chance we can take to wrestle half the season with our current heavyweights.

Agree, even if they do not make a bowl game, Gross will not be ready or competitive until mid January. Remember wrestlers are practicing all summer and fall and are in great condition when the season starts. Plus Gross was just getting all the rust off, this will set him back. Happy for him, since he is back playing football, but stinks for the wrestling team.

No it wasn't...we tend to(way) overate the jersey guys

So then I guess we're shopping for a JUCO or Grad Transfer to immediately be ready to go for November. Correnti is RSing and no disrespect to Ralph Normandia, but he hasn't really shown anything to me to make me believe he can be ready to go if we need him.

Seems like poor judgement to me. Gross could really do some damage (possibly AA) if he concentrated on wrestling. But, he loves football and you only get one time around...

He has no schollie money for either sport. It's his last season of college sports. He should do whatever the heck he wants . If he's that important to the Wrestling team they can offer him a partial to make him think about it.

No they can't. If they offer him a partial, the football team covers it and it's a full.

At that point he could/ would quit football. Now that I think of it it's probably not a bad negotiating ploy to get wrestling money by walking on the football team

Very shrewd indeed. Regardless I would still pursue a grad transfer or a JUCO for insurance.

My mistake, after rereading the NJcom article, Gross did in fact get Wrestling money.

"A successful wrestler who earned his way from walk-on to scholarship,"

You are assuming we don't go to a bowl game.

I'm surprised he's playing football again. He's not that good of a football player, but he can be pretty good in wrestling.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm trying to convey.

I know this document is old, but I believe that these things still apply (see J Harris). The second he practices with football, he's a football player first. That actually SAVES wrestling the scholarship money by it being charged to football. And in football you can only have full scholarships.

I'd be happy if somebody could explain if the rules have changed.
