I loved this play. Minnesota was going full throttle, trying to turn the game into a mixtape. That level of aggression necessarily comes with some contact but the refs were looking the other way. RU was playing soft and letting them have their way. Coffey comes through the lane with reckless abandon looking for another highlight. Harper must have taken issue with all this, goes for the ball but hard, puts Coffey on his ass. Clean foul, hard foul, no injury. I know people liked Mathis clapping back at the kid who threw the ball at him, but that was gonna happen in the heat of the moment no matter what. Harper's foul was calculated and exactly the right thing to do.

Agreed. Harper plays a tough game and takes no shit. Kid has an extremely high basketball iq and knows what to do and when to do it. Shot 40% again from 3 yesterday. If he can continue to shoot 35-40% from 3 watch out

Nice to see a team that doesn't like losing.

Remember the eddie jordan years?? I stopped watching. I will continue to watch this team through the ups and downs.
Yup. Not just the eddie jordan years, you might have to go back close to a decade to find an RU team that didnt just lay down and take a beating quietly while down 20, especially on the road. The tide is turning here

Nothing wrong with that foul-----didn't deliver a blow to the head.

Hamady and Rashod Kent come to mind as taking no shit from anyone as well...
We've definitely had some guys over the years who would step to opponents... Rashod is a good example. I don't think it has been the identity of the team in a long time though. Bannon's recruits kind of had an edge like that. Kent, Lamizana, Sherrod… heck Dahntay Jones became a straight up career goon in the NBA

Unfortunately Dahntay waited until he left for Duke, and then the NBA, to grow a pair. Maybe it was Billet and Kent having more dominant personalities in his first few seasons. I also definitely remember Sherrod having some edge, particularly in SHU games.

Either way, I'm glad Mathis and Harper have this. Geo is great, but has more of the "calming influence" guy. Eugene has a little edge to him as well. Kiss might have it if he can get his confidence back, and next year I think Mulcahy has some.

We need toughness and an identity if we're gonna move up in this league.

Sherrod was known to be kind of nuts. I would say we want his attitude in moderation.

Kiss has it too, just doesn't have the ability to physically dominate guys at this level. The only reason he was posterized by Coffey was that he went all in on contesting the shot. I certainly appreciate that decision even if it went horribly.

Absolutely loved that play. Loved Mathis's reaction as well. Haven't seen that type of attitude from RU since, well, a guy by the name of Phil Sellers.

Doc RU

You nailed it...I thought exactly
The same Things

we have had some exceptions since Phil and those late 70s teams. (kelvin Troy, Roy Hinson, mike Jones ans Steve worthy, dahthay Jones)...but i love the attitude of Mathis and Harper.

That attitude is a big reason why I know better days are ahead
