Yesterday, I mentioned the "close to the vest" players involved with the search had contacted certain major names such as Richt and Mullen. That was true. It was also true that part of that had to do with the search committee RU is using. I was very clear about how FLUID everything was.
A perfect example was on the Free Board where Brodo saw a post online that said that Richt will and I'm paraphrasing "sit out 2016" which meant he would not be interested in the Miami job. There were even other so-called experts who said that if he takes a job this year it will be at Virginia. Well, those statements were made a few hours ago. Now, if you go to the following:

Several reliable sources down in Miami are now reporting that Richt WILL accept the job at Miami and they're working on a contract.
All I'm saying is that everything is in flux right now. So, if Richt indeed takes that job, what happens to Schiano? To Mullen who also interviewed with that job? Suddenly we're looking at Ash and Warriner from OSU.those two names came out of nowhere. Even I had no idea where they came from. Now Keith S. is stating Golden has been put on a short list for RU (I'm not happy about this one). And no, no one is talking because Hobbs, Brown and Barchi are working closely now, especially Hobbs with the search committee.
Does that mean Mullen will just go back to MSU? Quite possibly. Will he interview with say Virginia? Who is to say. Or, would we be willing to now show how serious we are and go after him? As Jellyman aptly pointed out on another thread,a commitment to someone like Mullen would fall in the vicinity of $25 million over five years plus $3+ per year for the assistants over that time. I believe if the group negotiating now really wants this to happen and Mullen shows genuine interest instead of lip service, there is no reason why this couldn't happen. Now with that said, I have no idea right now what will happen.
Everything over the last 24 hours has been hush-hush. I'm in the dark just like you. Let's hope something comes of it if we're put in that position. But what I have posted yesterday was real regardless of what John, Bobby or Shawn's "sources" said to them. I'm sure their sources are outstanding. All I know is what I hear, because I'm willing to give at a higher amount.
