First and foremost, to whatever extent Pat is having medical issues, we all wish him a full recovery
Since this is a fan message board, and mist on here want to be the first to know, why not speculate or share news
As has been shared by other posters and other RU insiders whose last name us not O'Leary, the health issue was a cover for something else - with most speculating on sexual harassment ( affair with an employee)
Apparently this rumor has been out there for 3-5 months and to several insiders it was a question of When - Not If
There were no stories bring circulated about his health
As I said in a previous posting 5 hours ago - the "abrupt resignation " part caught people off guard - and God forbid that he is looking at huge medical bills, the best course of action would have been to take a leave of absence and at least stay on the RU Health Plan. Hopefully, he can still get COBRA as long as there wasn't gross misconduct
As a former attorney, Hobbs is 100% aware of the differences between resigning and being fired or mutually agreeing to step down. "Abrupt resignation" does not seem like he had control over the situation
The one part that sticks out is,
If this was something that people knew about as early as 3-5 months ago, why would the board have extended his contract in late April
Finally, as fans, besides wishing the best for Pat, hopefully this is a personal matter that doesn't affect the athletic department Rutgers athletics is in a much better place than it was when Pat took over, and hopefully, that will be his legacy ( yea, I get the contradiction)
