The latest allegations in the WR Drea Bowles assault for helping an alleged rape victim:

Butch Jones called Drea Bowles a "traitor" for helping a young woman who had allegedly been raped by a fellow football player. Bowles was then assaulted by teammates in two different incidents.

Apparently, the university investigated the incident in Jan '15 and said "Nothing to see here". Stunning and sad, yet this culture of protectionalism is all over big-time football.

You embarrass yourself and us with remarks like this. You watched too many Dukes of Hazzard episodes as a kid.

You do not live in the south but successful HCs are above the law, above even their local preachers.
Football is a religion and striking out at a successful HC, (he is turning UT around) that is as close to a savior as you can get down here.
PS yes Dukes of Hazzard is a stereo type but still of the "good ole boys" 75% still fit the bill

Allegations are allegations. Facts need to gathered and vetted. At least in America that is. Worry about your own.Due process will play out.

That's true. Innocent until proven guilty. Too many times universities react based on public outcry. Then the truth prevails and then the university finds themselves with a massive lawsuit on their hands. They should let the investigation play out and then make their move.

You never want to think that "your guy" is guilty and it's just haters hating. I believe the Feds get involved in these cases so we will find out soon enough. If it turns out that they can prove Butch said or did something wrong, he will be gone, not because of the people at Tennessee, but because of 24 hour news programming. The only reason we even care is because they beat us out for JG.

imbazza2 ... Yes, I am a NJ native, but I've lived in Virginia and currently Florida. Leisure and recreation and religion have much more impact on day-to-day living in the south. Activities like boating, fishing, hunting, softball, horseshoes, tennis, golf, etc. Leisure includes miscellaneous outside activities at parks and gardening and affection for high school and college sports. Lots of sports-oriented people don't have a good answer for who is your favorite team when it comes to pro sports. Religion is a part of their social fabric, not just a spiritual thing. The south has different sensibilities about public expenses (public services, public schools). Small towns do not spend millions on public schools and libraries and police stations and dog parks. More things are provided on a regional or county basis. Police/fire/ambulance services are often combined. Many folks send their kids to private schools, especially in Florida. People are also less career-oriented; the preoccupation with leisure and recreation has something to do with it. They literally have more outside interests. Probably spend less time thinking about and doing self-predatory things. Bottom-line: not southern hicks. They do things differently.

2. They are just allegations, no way to know if they are true.
3. I do think UT should look at what's going on, there seems to be a discipline problem within the football program.

You don't have to live in the South to see this kind of reaction to favored coaches/players.
I live in Central New York (Syracuse country) and saw plenty of it when Bernie Fine was brought up on charges of sexual misconduct and Boenheim's continuing arrogance about Fine and his own transgressions. Virtually everyone I can remember took the position that these guys were innocent and being targeted by law enforcement or rogue reporters looking to make a name for themselves.

the answer is $$$$$
- When big $$$ is involved (like the contract of Jones) there are big lawyers involved - and nobody is going to 'fire' Jones without genuine hard proof - otherwise there will then be LOTS of big lawyers involved -

Butch Jones is a lying sack of crap. Don't believe anything he says. Hell, he thinks JG is a good Quarterback which we know is the biggest lie in the world.

We are not sure what actually happened, but the culture of UT program is being examine. The culture of football has push the boundaries of socially acceptable actions. Most of these kids have been giving star status since middle school and now it's difficult to adjust. This is why you need to recruit players with strong characteristics.

Mr. twist thank you for your view of the other side of the Appalachians (Virginia and Florida) I am from Kentucky and for the most part what you say has some merit And your view point is most likely eastern Virginia and a retirement settlement in Florida, neither truly have more then a smug of the red neck any more. Rural Tennessee/Kentucky/Mississippi/Alabama, just come spend some down home time with the good ole boys and let them talk after a few beers the Dukes of Hazzard do come to life

LOL Butch Jones sold JG a bill of goods. I wonder if he'll ever see the field.

Butch has consistently denied ever saying that.
-------
The important thing here is not the actual "traitor" remark, but did Butch try to stop the helpful player in anyway or suggest the helpful player not report it, etc

It sounds like the accusation is that Butch was more interested in protecting guilty players and the reputation of the program, than doing the right thing..... The player seems to believe this is so..... This should be investigated.... You don't have to get the exact quote, just how was it being handled by the coach and program.

Not sure if you'll be able to read the article since The Tennessean requires a subscription, but perhaps they'll let you read a few articles before making you subscribe. This article is one of those uh-oh articles, and kinda grabs your attention right out of the blocks. And it's sad for the attorney, who bleeds orange.

Whether Jones called Bowles a traitor or not is IMO not the real issue. What Jones did not say about him speaks volumes about how Jones feels about this. Why wasn't Coach Jones heaping praise on this player for doing the right thing; for being the kind of young man the football team is proud of; where was the AD saying that this is the kind of young man that is the embodiment of the student/athlete at UT? Instead we get nothing. Instead the player gets beaten up by another player. Sorry Southern gentleman but whether or not Jones actually called him a traitor or not it is what he failed to do that set, and continues to set, the
tone.

Thanks disgusting
Freaking animals at that university

How could anyone send their daughters to that school?

Yeah, that was brutal. Not sure what will come of it, as there are two (or more) sides to be heard, but it isn't like there's no merit to a loss of institutional control. This will only serve to hurt the perception of all college teams, so it is bad for everyone. But the women who were violated, I just don't know how some of these men in charge, who have daughters, would permit it to continue.

I know!!! When someone makes an allegation like that, it should be taken as fact and the accused fired...immediately!!!

[eyeroll]

Due Process. Innocent til proven guilty. Remember Tawana Brawley? Duke Lacrosse?

HOWEVER, what does Dray Bowles have to gain by impuning Butch Jones? Why was Bowles beaten up? And as another poster asked: Why isn't Butch Jones praising Bowles conduct in helping the victim? Would he prefer that his players look the other way? Walk away from the poor girl? That, to me, is the most damning evidence at all.

UT should be required to put that information on the application to the University as a disclaimer.
