This season feels a lot like Shea’s 5-6 season. Looks like we are better in the W-L column but all the same problems are there.

Yes there were less blowouts but we still got shut out twice, once to Indiana of all teams and we scored all of one touchdown in our last three games.

In fact, our scoring went DOWN from last year when we had 4 shutouts. And almost half of our scoring for the whole SEASON came from Morgan St.

We need to show some true improvement next year or else Ash is a sitting duck while we hope SOMEONE decides they want to rescue us. Point to improvement all you want, but the underlying problems are still there and we may endure another winless B1G campaign if it is not fixed.

4 years. We were at the peak of schiano's recruiting classes last year. The little talent we had were seniors. They're gone. We overachieved this year given the talent. I thought it would be much worse. We are not a "lock and load" team after flood. We need some reality here.

4 years. But only because we can't fire him now or next year, which won't look much different than this year.

Agree , 4 years it is . I don't know Cali, I think we have 6 wins on the schedule for next year if we can get a mouse fart out of the passing game

he needs at least 4 or 5 more years.

But of course most of the "I want it now" fan base will claim he should be able to do this in a year or two. Its so funny isnt it

You are really gonna hate this but a contract extension for Ash will be announced very soon!

You are probably correct about a contract extension... he will not be able to recruit without being here 4 more years... if we hadn’t crapped the bed these last 3 games life would be more different...We need a Brian Leonard / Ray Rice type along with an influx of decent O & D lineman...that is great man be a challenge.

He is here for at least 5.

Sorry Mrs. Ash your son is not getting 4 or 5 more years.
If next year’s season results are similar to this year he would be long gone in any other B1G or SEC Program.
He needs to be in a Bowl in ‘19 or he is gone.

A contract extension has nothing to do with how much time he is going to get. No coach should have fewer than four years unless there are circumstances beyond on-field results. Ash has had two. Have I seen much to make me confident? Not really, but I can't even think about this for another two seasons.

While I completely agree with you that a 4-5 year plan long-term plan is what Rutgers needs, Ash himself is clearly part of the "I want it now" brigade:

1. Completely changes the offense after 1 year to better fit players already on the team - even though everyone, including himself, said we need better players to begin with. Clearly Ash didn't want to spend the 3-4 years necessary to turn over the roster, improve conditioning, and teach the "exciting offense" he said he wanted to run when he got hired.

2. Bringing in 5th year transfers (Allen, Bolin, Edwards) and also burning the red shirts of Oden and Lewis and Blackshear for very limited opportunities. Either bring in the transfers and redshirt for the future or play the kids and let them learn and make mistakes with eyes towards 1-2-3 years down the line.. Ash somehow did neither which was the worst option. Burned redshirts for limited opportunities and chances to grow and learn.

3. During the MSU game week presser he almost got angry at the idea of getting reps for younger players (specifically Fogg) and declared we are playing to win the game - roughly "we know what we have with the young guys already. Winning is better for the team than getting guys reps here or there."

Since it appears Ash is trying to turn it around in a year or two i can understand wanting to judge him on that curve.
Kill himself said in regards to Gio' s poor stats "he's got 3 wins. Wins are the only stat that matters.

Well unfortunately for Ash and Kill - they may get their wish. Sadly, the wins just might not be there come the end of next year.

Last 4 games of the 2018 season are losses (check the schedule). Will we be 6-2 after 8 games next season? That’s means 6-1 in games other than vs tOSU. I see another 4 or 5 win season.

Next year may very well be worse. The QB situation will still be a problem. Lewis has not shown very much. Sitkowski and Chapman are question marks. The running backs will lose several experienced starters, and the new players may not be B10 quality.
4 or 5 win season sounds about right.

He's getting 4 years likely and I'm fine with it. I think the defense has shown flashes and can get better provided it has an offense that isn't so anemic that it can balance it out.

That's my question and I'm still unsure of the answer and how well it will be fixed. Could it improve next year and the year after? Sure but will that improvement be enough? I don't know.

May I remind all that Hobbs' MO is to stay with his coaches for the duration plus. When he hired Kevin Willard at Seton Hall, Willard did not immediately produce and there was mucho pressure to can him - but Hobbs stayed the course - and Willard eventually broke thru.

Barring a disaster in 2018 and/0r 2019 or an ethical matter - Ash ain't going anywhere unless he chooses to.

I see that we are better this year, but not more competitive. We are not even close. My problem is Ash is that I have not seen great game planning which is essential to becoming competitive against the elite.

I’m going to say likely 3 more years. This year’s freshmen will be seniors. If Ash can’t get a winning record by year 5, he’ll be gone.

and because unlike our fans & our coach FROST didnt make excuses at every juncture
and why does RUTGERS always have to be the "norm"?
We’re not the norm. Not by a far shot. We’re far worse than the norm. It’s just what we are. But really, you’re pointing at a 2-year turnaround that has never before been done. How can you possibly use that as a benchmark?

I am not asking to go undefeated....all I am asking for is not to be blown out by Indiana maybe
argue your BS with someone else ok?
I played D-1...and have been around 6 decades
I know progress when I see it

Forgot how tough the AAC is compared to the pillow-soft B1G East.

.all I am asking for is not to be blown out by the likes of Indiana
not looking like we are totally lost on the field
3 and outing our D to the point of exhaustion most games
setting 12 minute O time of possession records
and beating EMU would be nice
but sure,,,keep making excuses...

His choices at OC has been curious...

and don't forget Richt at Miami - Miami was dog crap before a real coach showed up.

I don't like Ash but give him next year see what he does...

Get Butch Davis in here and we go to a bowl next year...truth!

Peace out

Who’s making excuses? Your comparison isn’t really accurate because we don’t get to play teams like ECU who couldn’t stop a turtle dipped in concrete from scoring 35 points this year. That being said, what Frost did was impressive and our offense needs a s***-ton of work.

Next year our Defense will be in the upper half of the BIG. Up until Indiana, Ash had left his imprint on a semi aggressive defense that would play hard but eventually get tired out from time of Possession differentials

Ash needs to overhaul his philosophy on offense and similar to how he fixed special teams, take a an aggressive approach to the scheme he is running so we can compete with mid tier BIG teams. Indiana and Maryland are only getting better with each recruiting class, Ash needs to get this fixed ASAP and grow a pair on offense or go back to being an exceptional DC at a top program

Nobody’s making excuses. We suck. We’re a bad team. The difference is we’re no longer the worst team in all of FBS. It’s improvement, even if it’s baby steps.

Yeah...well.it's a long climb to the top.

If we see another 4-8 year next year, I think he needs to go.

If he goes 6-6 next year, extend him for 2 more years to get another full 4 year cycle for recruiting to see what he can build.
