In the 1980 Olympics the U.S. Olympic hockey team defeated the overwhelmingly favored Soviets. They were older, more experienced, had won Olympic championships many times before and were an intimidating force. The U.S. team was young and inexperienced. Somehow, in a totally improbable game they beat the unbeatable Soviets.
Anyone who was present or saw that game on tv will never forget it. In some ways it galvanized our nation.
Tonight Rutgers takes on Ohio State in a game no one expects us to win. The U.S. Olympic victory shows us that talent alone does not guarantee victory. Tonight the stadium will be electrified, the fans will add super energy and like the U.S. Olympic team in 1980 an improbable victory is possible.
