How were the Indiana fans ?

Fans were fine. We had breakfast at a local joint (Village Deli) with a lot of IU families. Saw some RU folks as well. No real interaction by them although we said hello to all we met.
At the game, it was a very quiet affair. I said to my wife that the stands reminded me very much of one of our home games. Nobody in the seats 20 minutes before kickoff. Student section filled up midway through the first quarter (Remember it was Homecoming for them). Total attendance was announced as 40,000 but I really think it was closer to 35,000.
They cheered politely during the game - not extremely loud and had no impact on our team communicating. In the 4th quarter when things started to go our way, it was quiet and when we started our final drive (leading to the FG), I looked around and saw that most of the stand were pretty empty. Within 10 minutes of the end of the game (while we were still celebrating, the entire stadium except for the Rutgers section in the end zone was clear.

Really like the stadium, feels old school coliseum, but like new and similar size to HPSS. The IU tailgate scene is very nice, but the tradition of tailgating but not going in to the game continues, lots of empty seats and even more when the second half started.Students overall seemed completely apathetic towards the game.
For the most part the IU fans were friendly, but pretty indifferent to RU fans, didn't seem to engage much. In the first half, several fans near us were pretty brutal to the team and Wilson. One of their pretty good receivers dropped a pass and fan yells at Wilson to "recruit some damn receivers that can catch!" Third quarter they were pretty giddy (understandably so), talking about which bowl game etc. By the middle of the 4th they (the loud ones) were alternating between being resigned to same ol' same ol' and screaming about getting rid of Wilson and how Sudfield can never close.
IU is and continues to be a basketball school.

For a second when I read that I thought you were talking about the former Rutgers interim coach.
Generally ok.
However one disgruntled middle age Hoosier fan made a remark at me near the Concession stands at Halftime.
He looked at my RU shirt and said "Academic Fraud".
He was probably pissed that we had just taken the lead at the Half 27 - 24.
Would have loved to see that guy after the game.

Hilarious that a fan of a school that once employed Kelvin Sampson would have the nerve to say anything about cheating.
Their Rivals board was filled with massive negativity about the coach, program and history of football.
In many ways, they sounded like a lot of our fans on this board.

Maybe the Indiana fan was commenting on the person he saw rather than RU?
Bloominton is a pretty small place and not a lot of buzz about the game. The blocks along Kirkwood St. where most of the bars are were busy Friday night and game day. Stores had out their welcome back for homecoming signs. Beyond those few blocks not a lot of evidence that there was a game on. Main campus on game day was rather quiet. Very nice campus limestone buildings and all. The only one I went inside was the Union and appropriately impressed, looked more like a cathedral or castle. Only one mildly negative interaction. Friday night drunken undergrad say "Rutgers sucks" after passing me on sidewalk. His buddies tell him don't be a jerk. Those I ran into otherwise were not reactive or good natured joking about having the enemy in their midst. One older lady said something about us being just B1G babies. Which she is right about. But I sensed it was more about her frustration with Indiana football irrelevance than anything about us. The few I engaged in a little more conversation were impressed that I came all the way from the East Coast for a football game.
They have a nice tailgate scene along some rolling terrain near a residential neighborhood called Cottage Glen I think. It was between the campus and stadium. Some nice wooded grass lots. The stadium is on the edge of campus maybe a mile walk from the Old Crescent the heart of their campus. Seemed a number of people walked from Campus and town to get to the game.

Assembly Hall was across the way. The lobby was open and you could view the racks full of final four trophies. Lots of smaller gyms around that.Baseball fields, etc. just beyond. It was a pretty impressive set up all around.
As to fans during the game there was not any IU fans close to the visitors section so no interaction there. On the way out of the stadium one I was shaking my head and smiling and one of the users, middle aged guy, says congratulations.
On the walk back to town nothing directed towards me. Some fans muttering amongst themselves about the incredible nature of this loss and the futility of being an IU football fan generally.

we havent had one of those situations in a couple of years...hoping we're well past that now that we're in the big 10.

I remember last year's game against them here, when, aside from the IU marching band, they had about 100 fans in the stadium. It was kinda like a home game against Syracuse or UConn, LOL. About how many RU fans were at the game?

It's been decades since I visited IU but I can still recall the beautiful limestone campus, extracted from the local geologic base and carved out by the "cutters" who would become (a little) famous from the very entertaining cycling film of the late 1970s called "Breaking Away," if I am remembering that correctly. If I'm not, please correct me! It was a classic "town vs. gown" story about a cycling race that, for all I know, might still be happening in Bloomington.

I'm not what a douche. I'm all kinds of douche. Even an academic fraud should be able to remember that. And it's a sarcastic pedestal as opposed to a sarcastic hole.
Very small RU contingent. Pretty sure the smallest road crew since around 2005/6 I'd guess. Maybe 40 people at the official pre-game tailgate? The visitor's section had many vacant seats. Probably a couple hundred showed? Disturbingly reminiscent of the showings for road games during the Shea period. Most recent road games we seem to sell the bulk of the 3000 allotment. Some we've done better than that of course.
Yes, it is a rather ugly modern-ish building. But big.
I started the game in section 2, and had some nice friendly banter with the IU folks. They were giving my wife more grief for being a Purdue fan than caring about us wearing "R" hats :), So yes i'll echo their indifference. (They also hate Syracuse, for the record. likely hoops related)

I got more shit from an RU players mom for mildly complaining about their inconsistency and long tenure, than i got from any Indiana fan in regards to my loud cheering while sitting right next to them lol
