Hurley Says Half or More of his Team is Hitting the Portal

2 national championships who cares
Yeah yeah…. Don’t turn your back on me, I’m the best coach (what did he say?) in the game!
Yes can never take 2 nattys away from him. Great job as a coach.
People can still dislike him because he’s possibly now an even bigger jerk who can excuse away his behavior because he has 2 nattys.
In Maui he is the one that put his team in a tailspin they’ve never truly recovered from.

They will be a tough 8 seed for one of the ones

Wait...what??? It's OK to be happy when he poaches from other teams to build his natty roster but not OK when other teams poach his players? Yeah, OK, I get it....

I like his candor

I hope Rutgers is talking to players whose seasons aren't over.

Yes the guy in the interview forgot to ask him if he is talking to other schools players

UConn players hitting the portal seem reasonable if they fear losing playing time.
Leaving and finding a program you have a chance to receive more minutes is easy, siting on the bench watching the freshman play and only get garbage time might be the result of staying.
>With four high-profile recruits set to come in, Samson Johnson and Hassan Diarra are the only Huskies sure to leave as their eligibility expires. Alex Karaban, also honored on Senior Day as he’s graduating early in May, could declare for the NBA Draft but left the door open for a possible return. Liam McNeeley is projected to be a top-15 pick in the draft and could be the Huskies’ second one-and-done lottery pick in as many years, following Stephon Castle, who was selected fourth overall and is now a frontrunner for the NBA Rookie of the Year award.<

Boy are you shallow- this macho bullshyt is so weak---so wins only matter even if your coach is a bastard and a terrible representative of your school.I guess even if he was banging students would be OK if he wins? Wins and championships are fleeting but a schools integrity is not.
I was waiting at the concession stand yesterday but sigh.....

lmfao...we are literally being begged to PAY PLAYERS SALARY UPWARD OF $1,000, 000

you better believe its all about winning

As long as you win who cares. He has 2 nattys an 20 years younger than Pitino
The guy is an insufferable **** who won doing the same thing he is bitching about. Yes, he is a very good coach. He is also a huge douche. The two are not mutually exclusive.

As for who cares.. if he keeps winning natty's, no one. But being a dipshit can certainly get you a shorter leash if you do happen to struggle for a couple years.

i will take struggling as an 8 seed

Me too, that wasn't my point. I wasn't saying that would get him fired lol.

I am thinking more along the lines of Doug Peterson, coach of the Eagles that won the Super Bowl and was gone two years later. Usually winning a championship buys you a longer leash than that but if you are generally disliked the tables can turn against you faster.

But yes, being at 8 seed is not going to get you fired regardless.

Banging students? Sounds like some Kevin Bannon type of stuff……minus the winning and championships of course

By the replies in this thread I’m guessing very few of you actually watched the interview. He was not complaining and the topic of the current state of CBB was prompted. And his position was aligned with 95% this board.

Jon Wertheim: Do you have players right now that are fielding offers and considering playing for other teams next season?

Dan Hurley: Fifty percent of my roster or more.

Jon Wertheim: Fifty?

Dan Hurley: Fifty percent of my roster or more is at least, you know, considering going in the portal if not already knows what school that they're going to.

Jon Wertheim: So wait. Half your team is already thinking in terms of whether they want to transfer to another program or not?

Dan Hurley: Yeah. And in a couple of those cases they've already talked to the coaching staff at, at future school and have an idea of what their NIL is gonna be there and...

Jon Wertheim: The money.

Dan Hurley: Yeah.

Jon Wertheim: What does it do to a culture of a college basketball team when half the guys are fielding offers for next season to go elsewhere?

Dan Hurley: Well, I mean, look at the volatility this year. The level of volatility in college sports, this has now become a year-to-year proposition. The game has changed completely.
