Just found this...things have certainly changed in twenty years.

Bill Walsh...the reason we had the Shea years
It was a long time ago and I really don't care that much at this point but if you think he gets the job without the Walsh endorsement you are crazy. And obviously the person who hired him is ultimately responsibleRU President Francis Lawrence pulled the trigger on the Shea deal. I blame him more than Bill Walsh recommending Shea after Lawrence wanted to hire him.
Belichick recommended Greg to Tampa Bay before the Glasers hired him as HC. Was it Bill Belichicks fault that Greg ended up being a horrendous hire as HC of the Bucs ? Id say no, it was the Glasers fault.
He also thought Terry Shea would lead us to the promised land.

If Shea had the same support that the RU Adminstration had given Schiano ( Facilites, Academic support, staff) the results would have been different. That and the fact the New Jersey HS Coaches totally ignored Shea did not help.
But we did get 3 appearances in 1996 on National TV so that was a start I guess.
More support may have helped him, but Shea put himself behind the eight ball when he went on vacation right after starting the job. Why do we have to make excuses for someone who in the end was just a bad hire by an overqualified administration. Just like Flood and Fred Hill Jr and Eddie Jordan and Mike Rice were really bad hires.
I'll agree the vacation stunt was not a smart move.
Shea had a brilliant offensive mind and we saw how he developed QBs with little support around them ( McMahon). He just had no support whatsoever ...just thrown into a war with no weapons. Nowhere near the bad hire like Flood was. Who inherited a good recruiting class ( best in years) , facilities , Support, and new entry into the premier CFB Conference :B1G.

LOL .
You sure do have an obsession when it comes to Schiano.
So true. Shea had glaring deficiencies as a head coach (and GS certainly had his share), however, the football budget doubled when GS took the helm.If Shea had the same support that the RU Adminstration had given Schiano ( Facilites, Academic support, staff) the results would have been different. Just trying to give a comparable situation that RU fans could relate to. Unfortunately for you the comparison involved a guy you think I should not talk about.
Should I avoid mentioning Greg's name or participating in threads where he is the main topic ?
BTW when did you appoint yourself the board police captain ? I hope you're not monitoring what I post about, because that would be an obsession. Good day Sir.
Not sure I agree with the comment about if Shea had support. Graber looked like Knute Rockne compared to Shea and he was playing under the same rules as Shea. Shea was just not qualified for the job.If Shea had the same support that the RU Adminstration had given Schiano ( Facilites, Academic support, staff) the results would have been different. I agree with what you say, but also keep in mind that Mulcahey came on board as AD in 98 and I think we can all agree that he was definitely a game changer, bringing a commitment to success that didn't really exist under Gruninger the 25 years before. When a coach proves to a university that he is important, they will invest in him. Schiano convinced the university that he could get the job done - thats a helluva lotta confidence for the youngest d1a coach at the time.
