i know someone is probably about to post a new thread about the bowl games, but I just wanted to make sure that all the SEC haters had a full opportunity to bash the SEC for their weak schedule and their failure to play North of the Mason Dixon line.

Despite the above points, the SEC is 8-2 in bowl games, well at least so far they are. There is one yet to be played.

Additionally, all SEC West teams were invited to the bowl games this year where they went 6-1. That is much better than last years 2-5 for sure. BTW, the average winning point margin is 21 points this year. Fairly respectable IMO.

Perhaps it wasn't the best year for the SEC overall, but the SEC West seems respectable.

Let the slings and arrows fly! SEC, SEC, SEC! LOL

For those who haven't met Southern, a little background here. In addition to his business exploits, he is a songwriter who has had some success in the past. He wrote this song for Bill Withers back in the early 70s, and it's a great tune. Wait till the 55-second mark and you'll see that the title of this thread is a retread of one of Southern's old lyrics. Ya gotta love the guy for this tune alone.

I know, I know. I had this debate with my coworkers all the time when I lived in Atlanta. "Top to bottom, the SEC is the best conference in football!" Sometimes I would just look at them and say "Well, the NFC should be much better next year."

As an aside, it's very good to see Dominique Reed wasn't seriously hurt.

everything is cyclical.
This....
The death and resurrection of conferences is usually overstated each and every year.

I didnt think SEC was as bad as people thought this year based on last year's performance, nor do I think they will be as good as they will be hyped next year.

Yeah but singing "I know" 26 times was such a bummer. I just couldn't think of anything else at the time.

Damn another of those Southern Conference Honking mentions. Southern you been programmed by watching too much ESPiN. Though got to give it to the SEC west this year cept for TA&M

Good job, but SEC had Citadel beat South Carolina and Arky lost to Toledo. Have not seen those losses in the past.

Although I am not a SEC fan (with the exception of your team), I really want them to finish with the NC and pound Clemson. You see, I hate the acc (lower case by design [sick]) with their espn (ditto :chairshot:) hype machine and harbor for some of our old BE rivals.

Roll tide!

I was wondering how you came up with that lyric, and thought it was a bit weak, but then I remembered this other song you wrote and starred in. THIS is a killer hat, my friend! At the 2:00 mark, notice Mr. Screw putting the sweet talk on Mrs. Screw at the dating stage of their relationship, and she buys into it.

LOL. You just had to know that I would be praising the SEC this year. Last year, the SEC sucked. This year, they did well. Next year? Probably will suck again. Everything is cyclical.

Cyclical is the word. I think many of us simply didn't like SEC fans who thought their conference was always the best and would always remain the best. As you mentioned, last year wasn't so good for the SEC...

Congrats to Arkansas and your conference mates.

The SEC is the best conference IMHO.

I still believe the best way to judge conferences is against each other. Last year. The SEC was far from the best in bowl season.

My dream is to someday see the P5 conferences play against each other in OOC games rotating from conference to conference each year - including where the games are played.

Bowl games are a good test, but let's be honest - most are played in SEC country. That's an advantage they will always have, so when the conference record is poor in bowl season it says something IMO.

Thanks! It was a surprisingly good bowl season for sure.

Not as much as you would hope. LOL.

SEC West - B1G East

The 2 best divisions in college football.

I too believe that the SEC is the toughest conference from top to bottom. The only time they get beat is when another team from a different conference buys into the SEC mindset. I believe Urban Meyer did just that at OSU. He in essence put together an SEC caliber team which resulted in a National Championship. Several years ago Jim Tressel and OSU was badly beaten by LSU because of disparity of talent, speed and tenacity. The only team that regularly beat SEC teams were the Miami Hurricanes.

Southern Congratulations on your bowl win. I retract my comment about your QB Allen. Watched only parts of Ark games over the season, and yes he progressed very nicely. But as the season started I felt I was right in my assessment, Allen was just not that good a QB, especially with the Toledo loss and the downward spiral after that loss. But Allen showed great character, as the entire team did, after the Bama loss, Allen looked great in the bowl game going like 70% completions. I know K state in no Ole Miss but still a good win for Allen and the team. I am no lover of Bielema, but it looks like he is moving you in the right direction.
Good luck next year, and beat bama!
GO HOGS!

We're gonna need a bigger video.
Then you can buy a brick near the statue, embed a tiny projector in it, and project the video onto the back side of the base on game days. The Mrs. would be in her glory.

No one downplayed Brandon Allen more than I did earlier this year, especially during our horrible 1-3 start.

But, he played exceptionally well from late October through early December. I have been singing his praises ever since!

As much as I dislike the fact that Bielima looks horrible and talks weird, I have to admit the players love him and he seems to have Arkansas headed in the correct direction!
